Breakfast Topic: Patch 4.2 is upon us

Patch 4.2 brings with it many new features. Players will be able to enter the Firelands, Ragnaros' domain, for a whole slew of new daily quests and player-specific progression. Seven new raid bosses await intrepid raiders, valor point gear will be knocked down to justice level, and the previous tier of content is becoming more accessible to raiders new and old. Loads of new companion pets and mounts await players willing to aid the Avengers of Hyjal's cause. Lucky raiders will also take part in an epic quest to forge the newest legendary item in WoW, Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest.
I am especially interested and excited for the Molten Front and Regrowth daily hubs that are being introduced for max-level players in Hyjal, as the druids and sentinels break into Ragnaros' home turf, the Firelands, and lay siege for their survival. These dailies and daily hubs represent a philosophy that I love in MMOs -- your personal progression should matter just as much as the progression of the whole. You, individually, will be working with major lore characters and factions to put together the Hyjal offensive, and your decisions get to open up new quest areas and gear vendors in an order that you choose. Putting this type of control back in the players' hands feels like a Burning Crusade move, and I'm a man who loved him some Burning Crusade.
What are you looking forward to when we get to log into patch 4.2? What's your first move in the face of invasion from the Firelands?

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about here
Amaxe Jun 28th 2011 10:47AM
from 10% damage bonus to 5% damage bonus immediately comes to mind.

Ghostcrawler: "We also nerfed Arms and Fury damage across the board because they were doing too much damage in both PvP and PvE. While we are sensitive to casters outperforming melee on several raid encounters, having warriors handily outperform all other melee isn’t the solution to that problem."
The only strictly-PVP nerf is preventing Deadly Calm and Recklessness from being used at the same time.

where can i hear the live show?

I'm still not entirely convinced about the patch falling today. Still nothing in the updater, and I didn't see the wink-wink nudge-nudge about reading patch notes on the service forums - just the regular announcement (with the wrong date, Monday).

There's always a few of you. ;)

It is sad, so many people excited and it is 10 AM EST and there is still no download. Either they are having problems with pushing the patch out or it is not happening this week. If it is not this week, then sadly we will not see for at least two, due to the holiday weekend next week. :(

At least Zul'PUGs have gotten better and will continue to get easier with the gear available now. So the only thing that should still be sucking about them is the repetitiveness.
Who knows, maybe one day Blizz will put them into the same random heroic rotation as the rest. I mean, look at how the ICC 5-mans were in the random pool along with the original Wrath dungeons. We can only hope.

I'm pretty excited for everything the patch has to offer. i wont be bored for a good 3-4 weeks with nothing to do but sit and read trade chat. whats this flame kittah staff ive been hearing about?
loop_not_defined Jun 28th 2011 11:01AM
Without spoiling anything, one of the Firelands bosses drops an Agility staff that, when equipped by a Cat Druid, turns them into a fiery cat. It's a completely different cat model, not just the existing one on flames.
Amaxe Jun 28th 2011 11:23AM
So if you have a lot of competition for the staff and you win the /need roll, you can expect to be flamed once you equip it?
Sounds about right.

Getting into the AH baby! All my gold and that of my friends went into investing in mats for the new content craftables. Big money here I come. (I hope).
eel5pe Jun 28th 2011 12:06PM
I hate to burst your bubble Necko, but the hype over the new craftables as a source of income was overblown. If you've been stocking up on truegold and the like, great, but the market for them really won't open for over a month. Most people don't realize that the new craftable recipes won't be available for some time:
a) Weapons: won't be unlocked for at least 25 days, which is how many consecutive days of dailies it takes to unlock one of the reward vendors (see math below)
b) Armor: no one knows how the frack they drop. Presumably off Firelands bosses, possibly off trash.
By the time those items come on the market, average raiders will have the equivalent or better. Of course non-raiders and people still in tier 11 will need them, but the market will be diminished (your server's mileage may vary).
*my math, taken from http://www.wowpedia.org/Mark_of_the_World_Tree, and feel free to correct me:
4 marks a day in phase 1 (5 days), 14 in phase 2 (11 days), 27 in phase 3 (once you've unlocked either DoT or SW, you can't do both though), and 33 marks from one-time quests
20 marks to unlock phase 2, 150 marks to unlock phase 3, 150 more to unlock the faction you didn't start with, and 125 to unlock the vendor = 445 total
4*5 + 14*11 + 27*9 + 33 = 450
5+11+9, 25 days. =/
The timing could be a bit off depending on when the one-time quests occur, if they allow you to shave days off unlocking the next phase.

I think you underestimate the number of level 85 characters that do not raid. Even raiders have alts. Every single one of these characters will want a i365 weapon as soon as the recipes are unlocked.
jackklein61 Jun 28th 2011 12:58PM
If this were the case many would have purchased the 346 or 359 craftables, frankly I did not make on my server and the people that paid me to make stuff for them to put on the AH aare still trying after 4 or 5 months to sell these items. Now they will have to really reduce the prices on these items just to get rid of them.
Not many of these new item are very high on the BiS list for many of the classes and frankly, if I can't make it for at 3 weeks myself. I am surely not buying it off the AH for a ton money. I will just raid one toon till I can make every item I need.
So in theory you will get some idiots that are just to stupid and will pay a ton, but I do not think it is to the level you're thinking its going to happen.
joey.maund Jun 28th 2011 10:22AM
Im hoping the patch does come out, Over here in the EU the "Patching made easy" technical support thread has been added to the launcher so thats given me some hope.
Anyway, Im going to go over to Hyjal and start the dailies when it is released here.
matthewgubitz Jun 28th 2011 10:40AM
I'm guessing that 4.2 WILL be released today. With them doing maintenance they are probably making sure everything is correct and not messed up so you don't install 4.2 before they are done with a couple tweaks right? Does anyone disagree with this?
Shinae Jun 28th 2011 10:41AM
Calm down, people. Just because our clients haven't updated does not necessarily mean that we will not get the patch today.
Maybe folks at Blizz just slept in.
