Breakfast Topic: Borrowing features from other games

We've all cheated on WoW before. Whether it was Warhammer or Free Realms, we've all come back to the game. While Blizzard does a lot of things right, once in awhile, we play another game, see something cool, and ask ourselves, "Why doesn't Blizz do that?"
We've all seen talk about an appearance tab, where players can, for example, wear their Christmas clothing for looks while actually having the stats of their raid gear -- the only real difference is the looks. Rift recently announced this feature, so with any luck, much like with guild quests/challenges, the Blizz team will feel like borrowing this as well.
Housing's another idea that gets tossed around. It was actually being worked on in alpha, but Blizz decided not to go with it. In other games like EverQuest 2, player housing is also what makes towns. Why not allow players to use some space in capital cities and outposts to house their guilds?
In a similar vein, I'd love to see some world PVP that can be captured only by guilds. Darkfall's player housing is linked with a conquest system in which players get to keep their houses but the conquering guild gets some cash for their guild bank and their name in lights. Every, say, six hours, a town gets "hot." Imagine if guilds could "capture" Crossroads and have their guild advertised as its protector or take over a rival guild's home town to start some world PVP guild wars?
What features from other games would you like to see in WoW? Player-owned ships? Terraforming? Factionless PVP servers?

A Breakfast Topic that isn't "how did you do in the Firelands, suck it Europeans"?
Nicely played.

We wiped on trash.
We wiped on Lord Rhyolith.
Guess what the EU can look forward to?
Stock up on the Charmin, folks.

Well, as embarrassing as it is to admit it after all the bitching I did... the loss of Dark Succor wasn't as bad as I feared, and he remains one of my most powerful toons at 85.

What a coincidence, we wiped on trash and wiped on Lord Rhyolith too!

Trophies that can be displayed on your character.
WAR did this, and I think it would be a great way to add some customization to your character since Blizzard doesn't seem to want to let players hide in any way the gear they're wearing.

A dialogue type system like in Bioware games. That one quest in Hyjal where I could choose to let the harpy (don't remember her name) live or die made me surprised. Even though I don't think it effected anything, it made me feel more immersed in game.

Agreed. I'm hoping that quest chain was them experimenting with something that may be more dynamic and affect the end result of a quest chain, or maybe further down the road, a reputation path.

You mean, blatantly copy SW:TOR? :)
kaminari Jun 29th 2011 2:15PM
@ dark: you can't copy what's not out yet =P

dont think it's from any other MMO but, given I've many alts with a lot of different professions maximised, often I use the same materials
would love to see some sort of "ATM Card" where I wouldn't have to re-log to send the few missing thousand gold to get some BOE -- and just go to the normal bank and access a designated chars bank and be able to remove whatever I want from there (except soulbound stuff, obviously) -- only 1 char per account could have this but I guess everybody knows already which of their chars will get the special tokem

I honestly wish they would just go the whole way and make a character's bank be shared for the whole account. DDO does something like this for subscribers.
Noyou Jun 29th 2011 10:03AM
Does make a lot of sense but then the gold sellers could clean your account that much faster. I'm sure they would still check for things they could grab and sell too though so who knows. But it would make things better for sure.

A shared bank would be nice, but at least shared gold. One gold count for your server characters. That would be great.

Global Agenda has a single wallet across the whole account (including their equivalent to WoW's points, so players can do high end content on the character that is in demand and spend the points on the one they want to improve).
GW has an account-wide shared storage with a special crafting tab, which stores up to 250 of each kind of crafting material.

A lot of the reason they haven't done this is that soulbound doesn't actually work that way because they didn't think of it when they built the game. If there was a shared bank soulbound would become largely meaningless and you could share raid gear with your alts.

having two "Guild Houses" in the major capital, Each house is earned by the most progressed guild in raid content and pvp content and are hub's of information for their respective fields.
Noyou Jun 29th 2011 10:09AM
Thanks but no thanks. A license for people to display how douchey they can be? I'll pass. I'm all for guild housing but putting a progression guild on a pedestal? They already get server firsts and hover all over on their raiding mounts. That's quite enough really :) Guild housing would be sweet and it would be even sweeter if you could place your location like a hearthstone to any inn and it ports you there. Then there would be a portal for you and your guildies to hang out inside and see an achieves or trophies you have accumulated as a guild.

I concur... the 'leet' raiders/gankers, uh I mean PvPers already do enough epeen stroking
datgrl Jun 29th 2011 8:15AM
I'd like to see more avatar customization, like what's available in Aion.

From what I've heard about SW: TOR so far, the quests have a lot more to them - you can choose to betray people, make other decisions halfway through the quest, and so on. They also help decide if you're more toward the light or dark sides of the force. I know that Azeroth doesn't have the whole light side/dark side thing, but it would be really nifty to have questlines with choices in them that really mattered, so that it feels more like I'm doing what my character would do.
