My boyfriend played. I'd watch TV or read as he played, sometimes I'd looked over his shoulder as he played. I thought it was fun and interesting, but I didn't see myself as a "gamer", until a friend of my niece's offered me his copy of vanilla wow (he was 10 at that time and his parents won't let him play). I put the game on my laptop, looking at the character screen, I remember choosing an undead priest, but my boyfriend told me we couldn't play together if I were horde, so I rolled a human warlock, and to this day, the warlock is still my main. My boyfriend, on the other hand, stopped playing soon after Cata, cancelled his subscription and is now waiting for SWTOR.
