Around Azeroth: This was pretty much inevitable
Oh, right. We don't use zeppelins for mass transit here on Earth nowadays for a reason. Durdanios of Covenant of the Sun on Wyrmrest Accord (US-H) managed to capture yet another iconic airship explosion on film. Oh, the goblinity!

Nah, that's not an explosion. You can tell by how the airbag's still intact. It's just a really good goblin party.
...yes, really good goblin parties are nigh-indistinguishable from explosions.

indistinguishable and inextinguishable

(Yes, Elizabeth said this already. I just had to say it, as well. I do enjoy the Twilight Highlands opening event for Horde.)

Well, helium-filled zeppelins that aren't painted with rocket fuel could probably work out explosion-free. Heck, they could probably be solar-powered too.
Hal Jul 7th 2011 10:52AM
Yes, but why would a goblin ever fly one?

Finally -- someone else out there recognizes that the silver coating on the outer skin of the Hindenburg and Graf Zeppelin was comprised mostly of the same compound used in solid-fuel rocket boosters like those used by the shortly-being-retired Space Shuttle.
Airships built by the Zeppelin Company for the US Navy (USS Akron and USS Macon) used helium to lower fire risk but I believe the same flammable silver dope was used, so there was still some risk.
But just like the Concorde, the Graf Zeppelin and the Hindenburg carried a huge number of paying passengers in perfect safety before a single highly-visible crash caused loss of public trust. A second Graf Zeppelin was to have been built but it was scrapped before going into service, partly due to the Hindenburg crash. Concorde, meanwhile, was pulled from service even though the crash wasn't even the "fault" of the aircraft -- the cause was determined to be FOD from a Continental jet that took off just minutes prior to the doomed plane.
We're collectively very stupid about such things and place blame on people/things that don't deserve the abuse.

I loved the Mythbusters episode about the Hindenburg.

Buran: Well, the Concordes were gaining in age and repaircosts whilst declining in passenger numbers, that was the reason why they were retired - not to say the accident didn't help with the decision.

See, Goblins are actually the sort of people I'd EXPECT to use rocket fuel to coat the gasbags of their zeppelins.

It's a floor wax AND a dessert topping!

Do keep in mind that these are GOBLINS that produce these zeppelins.
Goblin engineering: if it's not exploding, you're not doing it right.

It should be noted that airplanes fill their wings with flammable gas. They make quite impressive fireballs when they crash, too, but we still fly airplanes.
It should be further noted that most of the people on the Hindenburg survived. Most crashed and burned airliners result in zero survivors. If you're going to be involved in an air transportation crash, you're *far* safer on a crashing zeppelin. Even one using hydrogen gas is far, far safer in a crash than any modern jet.

Damn you make a strong case for the resumption of Zeppelins!
There's a really nice book written by Harry Turtledove called "The Two Georges" it's an alternate history novel, if the US hadn't had a revolution, where North America is part of the UK. Zeppelins are the mode of air transit.
It's a nice book, I recommend it.

Too soon!

It's not a REAL Goblin party unless at least five people (which may or may not include the host of said party) are not running around flailing wildy, screaming, and on fire, by the time the appetizers are ready to be passed around.
