Breakfast Topic: What have you tried in WoW that you never thought you'd enjoy?

WoW was my first MMO, and when I started playing six years ago, I was terrified of everything that wasn't "kill 10 boars." Dungeons? I'd run them with a friend, but it took some coaxing. Raiding? No way. It seemed way too complicated, not to mention having an audience anytime I noobed it up. PVP? That just didn't seem like something that would interest me all.
If I'd kept that attitude, I can't imagine I'd still be playing WoW, although Cataclysm's linear, quest-driven nature might have pulled me back in. Today, dungeons are second nature to me, just like they are to any other MMO player. I finally tried raiding during The Burning Crusade at the prodding of my guildmates, who needed a healer. After the very first night, I completely forgot what I'd been so nervous about.
As for PVP, I now have a level 85 warlock whose sole purpose is melting fellow players' faces and am leveling a warrior completely through battlegrounds. I'm not sure why I didn't think I'd be interested in PVP, but I was wrong.
After years spent playing a game, it makes sense that all of these things are second nature, so it's easy to forget what it was like when everything was new. The fact that once upon a time both entering a raid and healing fellow players seemed overwhelming is kind of ridiculous to me now that I do it three nights a week.
What about WoW made you nervous at first or just didn't seem interesting? What made you try it? Did you change your mind?

MusedMoose Jul 7th 2011 8:23AM
Well, it's easy to get reeled into that sort of thing.

I wouldn't touch that line with a 10-foot pole...
MusedMoose Jul 7th 2011 8:46AM
Don't have the gills for it, eh?

I fell for it, hook, line and sinker...

People are bound to start carping whenever a pun war breaks out. One of these dace someone's going to make a real splash around here; it might even go down to making bass insults and generally acting slimy. Knowing all this, I can't kelp myself when I sea something like this starting - where others would clam up or flounder early on, I relish the opportunity to buy into a pun war hook, line, and sinker.

Oh come on, there's a time and a plaice...

All you punsters should go fly a kite.

I was going to make a pun, but then I clammed up.

People who make puns should be pun-ished

I told myself that I would never enjoy healing. I didn't fancy the responsibilities and all the potential blame that came with it (same reason I never wanted to tank), so I spent 4 years firmly doing nothing but DPSing.
Then me and my then-boyfriend decided to level a healer/tank combo. I didn't want to tank, so I chose to roll a shaman, and specced resto. I healed from level 10 onwards, and loved it. We only created them in mid-January, and now my little shaman has healed all the Cataclysm raids and is currently making her way through Firelands, healing as she goes.

for me it was healing and tanking...
i started as a hunter, saw my first tank (WoW is my first mmorpg unless you count runescape) and was intrigued
rolled a pally the next day and within 3 days i was tanking my first instance
that paladin became my co-main for all of wrath, and started a trend with me
he tanked all the way through Naxx, ToC, most of ICC, and about half of ulduar, not to mention all of the dragon bosses from Maly and Sarth to Hal and Ony
towards the end of wrath, had some guild drama issues, so i wasnt tanking runs anymore (i couldnt stand dealing with whiny ppl in vent that were SUPPOSED to be our officers)
so i rolled a priest...and made the mistake of going holy at 10
god 10 to 15 was painful, but once i started healing.....he only has a shadow spec for teh rare daily
starting just before the launch of Wrath, i went from being a noob going oo that looks like fun, to iwhere i am now
I have been RL, and MT, for almost every guild i have been in, and i am currently sporting active 85 DK, Bear, and Warrior tanks (pally is on my old server still) and as far as healers, well my druid is feral/feral, and my new pally is only 23 (might make him prot/holy though) but my shaman is enh/resto.....
what can i say, either i am a huge glutton for punishment, or i have one of those protective personalities (just dont ask my fiance, she would say i have a pain in the butt personality lol)

Last night my guild finally had enough people to put together a Firelands trash run. I was asked to heal, I didn't mind. I thought I would not be any good at it though.
We had two paladins and me a priest. They had one pally on raid healing, eventually I offered to switch from off tank healing to raid healing with him since he was in mostly greens.
And we had a much easier time with trash then.

Rogue PvP. Turned out more awesome than I imagined.
vlad3163 Jul 7th 2011 8:25AM
This.
My friend had a rogue and I would watch him play occasionally. Eventually I got around to making my own, and actually playing her. I leveled as Sub, and it was great. I had always thought of rogues as sneaky underhanded bastards, but when you're on the other side of the coin, it's a lot more enjoyable.
