Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 6

Blizzard's at it again -- or rather, Zarhym is, as another round of patch 4.2 hotfixes goes up this evening over at the official blog. Included with the list are a host of fixes and tweaks to the Firelands raid as well as the dailies surrounding it. For those looking to begin heroic modes, start your engines! For those simply wanting to complete that blasted daily with the Wounded Hyjal Defenders, you may now breathe a sigh of relief.
- In the Firelands, heroic difficulty has been activated and is accessible in all regions. Let the world firsts begin!
- Eternal Embers are now epic quality.
- There are now many more Wounded Hyjal Defenders in the Molten Front. While I'm sure they are flattered by all the attention, you guys can stop fighting over them now.
- Characters should no longer disconnect or receive movement enforcement errors when certain spells, abilities, or item effects are used while on moving transports. I'm not sure what this means, but if it stops people from disconnecting on Beth'tilac, I'm all for it.
Follow after the break for the full list of hotfixes.
July 6
-
General
- An issue has been corrected that would cause players to lose their progress towards Veteran of the Horde II, Veteran of the Alliance II, Warbringer of the Horde, or Warbound Veteran of the Alliance if Veteran of the Horde or Veteran of the Alliance were complete.
-
Classes
- Characters should no longer disconnect or receive movement enforcement errors when certain spells, abilities, or item effects are used while on moving transports.
-
Druid
- Faerie Fire and Faerie Fire (Feral) will now remove Stealth, Invisibility, Vanish, Shadowmeld and Prowl from players.
-
Mages
- When using Spellsteal on a shaman, Lava Flows will no longer be given to the mage as a buff. The buff, however, will be removed from the shaman.
-
Priests
- Shadowfiend is now causing the casting priest to enter combat when cast on enemy players.
-
Shaman
- A Fulmination critical strike for more than 30,000 damage (10-player) or 45,000 damage (25-player) should now properly interrupt Rageface's Face Rage in the Firelands.
- When Lava Flows is stolen by a mage via Spellsteal, the mage will no longer gain the Lava Flows buff.
-
Dungeons & Raids
-
Firelands
- Heroic difficulty has been activated and is accessible in all regions.
- Pet corpses, guardians, and placed items should no longer provoke Engorged Broodlings to a premature detonation.
- The pack of creatures fighting each other around Flamewaker Beast Handlers will stop fighting each other and attack the raid once provoked.
- Flamewaker Subjugators now award 50 reputation, up from 15, while Flamewaker Animators award no reputation or loot.
- The aggro radius on the third pack of Hells Hounds on the way to Beth'tilac has been reduced.
- Unstable Pyrelords now have an active stealth detection aura present when the gauntlet is triggered which prevents stealth classes from traversing up the hill undetected.
-
Baleroc
- Baleroc's health has been increased on 10-player Heroic difficulty.
- Baleroc's gate now despawns properly when he resets.
- Shards of Torment despawn when Baleroc resets even if they are spawned after Baleroc has despawned.
-
Lord Rhyolith
- Lord Rhyolith can now be quickly snapped from left to right, or right to left, if the appropriate amount of damage is dealt to the opposite foot.
- Lord Rhyolith now prefers to activate volcanoes that are in front of him over volcanoes that are behind him.
- Lord Rhyolith now spawns slightly further back on his platform, allowing players to stand on the edge of the terrain and not aggro him.
- Lord Rhyolith no longer despawns when reaching the end of the encounter area, and does not despawn when casting Drink Magma from any of the possible locations.
- Lord Rhyolith now summons in volcanoes when intended, and it is no longer possible for the first set of volcanoes to be ignored.
-
Majordomo Staghelm
- Majordomo Staghelm has had his health increased by 10% on Heroic difficulty.
-
Ragnaros
- Living Meteors no longer evade and return to their spawn point when their original target dies or uses a threat drop. They will instead choose a new target.
- The Sons of Flame can no longer be missed by melee attacks and abilities.
-
Shannox
- Shannox will now rotate when appropriate instead of moving to get in range of his target while being tanked.
- Shannox will always use Hurl Spear after a raid wipes, even if Riplimb collapsed just prior to the group wiping.
-
Firelands
-
Items
- Jamus'Vaz and Faldren Tillsdale are once again offering players Conquest Points in exchange for Valor Points.
- Normal and Heroic versions of Deflecting Star now correctly bind when picked up.
- Eternal Embers are now epic quality.
- Normal and Heroic versions of Pauldrons of Roaring Flame now have mastery rating instead of hit rating.
- Ruthless, Vicious, and Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Clasps of Cruelty have had their Stamina values increased to remain consistent with equivalent belts. Note that the tooltip will require a patch to update.
-
Quests & Creatures
-
Hyjal Regrowth & Molten Front
- Players are now receiving 6 Marks of the World Tree from Caught Unawares and 10 marks from The Sanctuary Must Not Fall, which now allows players to obtain 20 marks as soon as they finish their first days' worth of daily quests and unlock the Molten Front. The amount of marks offered is properly updated in player Quest Logs as well.
- There are now many more Wounded Hyjal Defenders to accommodate a large concurrency of players in the Molten Front.
- The Fiery Behemoths and Molten Behemoths are now the same size.
- Rayne Feathersong has been moved from the cave and is still available as a daily quest giver at Malfurion's Breach.

I don't understand why Blizzard didn't just make the elite Vicious gear available for honor from the get-go (whether that be patch day or first day of the new season), removing not only the Bloodthirsty but the rating-free Vicious as well.
As I'm not a dedicated arena player and don't run with a comp-of-the-month team, I doubt I'll ever hit 2200. With this new system every season I'll be upgrading all my 365 Vicious gear with honor in the first couple weeks and then again over the course of the season. Seems a tad wonky to me.

Druid
Faerie Fire and Faerie Fire (Feral) will now remove Stealth, Invisibility, Vanish, Shadowmeld and Prowl from players.
Was it not working like this before???
egburr Jul 7th 2011 7:47AM
My faerie fire never seemed to do much of anything, especially to rogues. I'll have to go run a few BGs again and see if I notice any difference now.

I think it stopped you going stealth but didn't break it IIRC. New fix might be for when you land faerie fire as they stealth AND to stop vanish etc.
Bumblebee Jul 7th 2011 10:54AM
It's worded a bit funny. From how it's written there, it would seem that it will in fact BREAK Vanish, instead of just keep ticking through it and then put you back out into the open. Breaking the Vanish-effect would negate the whole fix, so that sounds rather bad. I hope it's just the wording that's funny.

"Players are now receiving 6 Marks of the World Tree from Caught Unawares and 10 marks from The Sanctuary Must Not Fall, which now allows players to obtain 20 marks as soon as they finish their first days' worth of daily quests and unlock the Molten Front."
Sigh. I went out there and did all the available quests last week and was rather shocked that I had to come back another day just to get enough marks to do anything.
It was such a downer I still haven't gone back. Why did anyone think releasing it in the original form was a good idea?
jun00jham9999 Jul 7th 2011 1:51AM
Does anyone know if we would be credited for the extra marks for players who already completed those quests?
RetPallyJil Jul 7th 2011 2:15AM
Oh! Heaven forfend you might have to work on something for *two whole days!* What a cruel master Blizzard is!!!!!!!!
WaterRouge Jul 7th 2011 2:31AM
Heaven forfend? Forbid? Well geez, Heaven forbid someone complain about something. What's the problem here RePallyJil?
Skarn Jul 7th 2011 2:31AM
It's simply a pacing mechanic. It draws it out a bit for the people who are really gung ho about it and do the dailies every day. For those that come later, this speeds it up a bit. I wouldn't be surprised to see the next several "goals" get easier after they are completed by boosting the amount of "bonus" marks too.
It's how dailies are designed. The whole point behind them is to control the time it takes to accomplish anything. Previously, all repeatable quests gave extremely small rewards like 10 rep or something similar. It took a long time to finish any of these grinds. Daily quests allow Blizzard to make the overall process longer while making each individual effort smaller.
Considering your constant complaints about not having the time or guild to do anything, I'd think that would appeal to you, Sam.

for·fend
–verb (used with object)
1. to defend, secure, or protect.
2. to fend off, avert, or prevent.
3. Archaic . forbid.
What's the problem here, WaterRouge?

I was burnt out anyway so I missed a day of doing the Firelands marks.
Does that mean that Blizz will eventually reward me for not being "gung ho" about getting my 150 marks of the world tree?
They shouldn't... and they shouldn't rush yet more people into the Firelands without doing the preliminaries either, unless they compensate the rest of us.
It's not like the changing of the mechanics of the Wintersaber mount (I got mine the hard way, but don't feel cheated by Blizz making it easier) or saying "We're going to slightly increase the amount of marks earned."
This is a matter of those people running from the beginning having nothing for those two days.
Yeah, you can put me down as one of the people who think Blizz did this wrong. It took us two days to get into Firelands, but they can do it in one. Please send my toons 28 marks each (the daily amount of 14 x 2) to compensate us.
Amaxe Jul 7th 2011 9:02AM
"or saying "We're going to slightly increase the amount of marks earned.""..*** From Dailies*** I forgot to clarify
adamjgp Jul 7th 2011 9:56AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you have just waited until these changes went in, meaning that you don't do the quests right away? Then you wouldn't have 'wasted' your time getting less than max marks.
SamLowry Jul 7th 2011 10:27AM
"Considering your constant complaints about not having the time or guild to do anything, I'd think that would appeal to you, Sam."
Not really. I thought it was idiotic that they promise that if you do these dailies, you'll open up all sorts of neato things and see all sorts of nifty things happen, but not today, not on your first day, we'll just hand you some cash and a few marks that aren't enough to accomplish anything.
If they wanted to inspire the players to make the trip all the way out there more than once then they should have given them a hint up front about what lay ahead, instead of changing nothing, leaving you hanging, and handing you a new form of cash without explaining what it's good for.
Like I asked, who in the company thought this was a good idea? Who would have bothered with the Bridenbrad questline in Icecrown if you were stopped after four quests without being told that you have to come back tomorrow if you want to continue? It's no different.
Amaxe Jul 7th 2011 10:28AM
Sure we could have waited... I could have done a lot of things other than trying to compete with too few quest items and too many people trying to get them.
The point is, it remains an arbitrary decision by Blizzard which wasted the time of those who had to do those first two days to get the marks to get through the gate..
SamLowry Jul 7th 2011 4:15PM
Thank you all for blacking out all my comments--that guarantees everyone will read them!
Brett Porter Jul 7th 2011 4:30PM
"without being told that you have to come back tomorrow if you want to continue"
You... are told that. The quest tells you you need 20 marks, you don't have 20 marks, you just completed a "daily" quest.
Of course you have to come back the next day. You had to be told that specifically?
Also, they announced it already, through places like Wowhead and battle.net that you would need 20 Marks to open up the further dailies. I'm guessing you weren't paying attention there either...
vocenoctum Jul 7th 2011 7:49PM
The change wasn't announced ahead of time, just suddenly the quests added more marks. I had two guys in from the start, and don't really feel bad that they "lost" that time since the change was a couple days later. No biggie, I suppose. I do think it's silly to change it so soon though, getting in on the third day wasn't horrible.
OTOH, I'm still earning towards the 150 to unlock more dailies, then another 150, then another 125 before I see ANYTHING ELSE. So people that were impatient for the 20 marks are screwed if they think it's easy.
And, on the other other hand, I've got alts that now I run through the one days worth for the intro gear from the vendor (amulet/ring) and then never do more.
SamLowry Jul 7th 2011 10:56PM
Count me as doubly ticked, because I just went back for day two and discovered that because I participated last week I'm still 4 marks short of the very first turn-in.
In other words, anyone starting just now can make something happen their first day, but anyone who started before this fix has to grind away for three days to see the same change.
Now I see why folks were asking for marks to make up for the difference.
Once again, way to go Blizz.
