Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 6

Blizzard's at it again -- or rather, Zarhym is, as another round of patch 4.2 hotfixes goes up this evening over at the official blog. Included with the list are a host of fixes and tweaks to the Firelands raid as well as the dailies surrounding it. For those looking to begin heroic modes, start your engines! For those simply wanting to complete that blasted daily with the Wounded Hyjal Defenders, you may now breathe a sigh of relief.
- In the Firelands, heroic difficulty has been activated and is accessible in all regions. Let the world firsts begin!
- Eternal Embers are now epic quality.
- There are now many more Wounded Hyjal Defenders in the Molten Front. While I'm sure they are flattered by all the attention, you guys can stop fighting over them now.
- Characters should no longer disconnect or receive movement enforcement errors when certain spells, abilities, or item effects are used while on moving transports. I'm not sure what this means, but if it stops people from disconnecting on Beth'tilac, I'm all for it.
Follow after the break for the full list of hotfixes.
ZarhymJuly 6
-
General
- An issue has been corrected that would cause players to lose their progress towards Veteran of the Horde II, Veteran of the Alliance II, Warbringer of the Horde, or Warbound Veteran of the Alliance if Veteran of the Horde or Veteran of the Alliance were complete.
-
Classes
- Characters should no longer disconnect or receive movement enforcement errors when certain spells, abilities, or item effects are used while on moving transports.
-
Druid
- Faerie Fire and Faerie Fire (Feral) will now remove Stealth, Invisibility, Vanish, Shadowmeld and Prowl from players.
-
Mages
- When using Spellsteal on a shaman, Lava Flows will no longer be given to the mage as a buff. The buff, however, will be removed from the shaman.
-
Priests
- Shadowfiend is now causing the casting priest to enter combat when cast on enemy players.
-
Shaman
- A Fulmination critical strike for more than 30,000 damage (10-player) or 45,000 damage (25-player) should now properly interrupt Rageface's Face Rage in the Firelands.
- When Lava Flows is stolen by a mage via Spellsteal, the mage will no longer gain the Lava Flows buff.
-
Dungeons & Raids
-
Firelands
- Heroic difficulty has been activated and is accessible in all regions.
- Pet corpses, guardians, and placed items should no longer provoke Engorged Broodlings to a premature detonation.
- The pack of creatures fighting each other around Flamewaker Beast Handlers will stop fighting each other and attack the raid once provoked.
- Flamewaker Subjugators now award 50 reputation, up from 15, while Flamewaker Animators award no reputation or loot.
- The aggro radius on the third pack of Hells Hounds on the way to Beth'tilac has been reduced.
- Unstable Pyrelords now have an active stealth detection aura present when the gauntlet is triggered which prevents stealth classes from traversing up the hill undetected.
-
Baleroc
- Baleroc's health has been increased on 10-player Heroic difficulty.
- Baleroc's gate now despawns properly when he resets.
- Shards of Torment despawn when Baleroc resets even if they are spawned after Baleroc has despawned.
-
Lord Rhyolith
- Lord Rhyolith can now be quickly snapped from left to right, or right to left, if the appropriate amount of damage is dealt to the opposite foot.
- Lord Rhyolith now prefers to activate volcanoes that are in front of him over volcanoes that are behind him.
- Lord Rhyolith now spawns slightly further back on his platform, allowing players to stand on the edge of the terrain and not aggro him.
- Lord Rhyolith no longer despawns when reaching the end of the encounter area, and does not despawn when casting Drink Magma from any of the possible locations.
- Lord Rhyolith now summons in volcanoes when intended, and it is no longer possible for the first set of volcanoes to be ignored.
-
Majordomo Staghelm
- Majordomo Staghelm has had his health increased by 10% on Heroic difficulty.
-
Ragnaros
- Living Meteors no longer evade and return to their spawn point when their original target dies or uses a threat drop. They will instead choose a new target.
- The Sons of Flame can no longer be missed by melee attacks and abilities.
-
Shannox
- Shannox will now rotate when appropriate instead of moving to get in range of his target while being tanked.
- Shannox will always use Hurl Spear after a raid wipes, even if Riplimb collapsed just prior to the group wiping.
-
Firelands
-
Items
- Jamus'Vaz and Faldren Tillsdale are once again offering players Conquest Points in exchange for Valor Points.
- Normal and Heroic versions of Deflecting Star now correctly bind when picked up.
- Eternal Embers are now epic quality.
- Normal and Heroic versions of Pauldrons of Roaring Flame now have mastery rating instead of hit rating.
- Ruthless, Vicious, and Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Clasps of Cruelty have had their Stamina values increased to remain consistent with equivalent belts. Note that the tooltip will require a patch to update.
-
Quests & Creatures
-
Hyjal Regrowth & Molten Front
- Players are now receiving 6 Marks of the World Tree from Caught Unawares and 10 marks from The Sanctuary Must Not Fall, which now allows players to obtain 20 marks as soon as they finish their first days' worth of daily quests and unlock the Molten Front. The amount of marks offered is properly updated in player Quest Logs as well.
- There are now many more Wounded Hyjal Defenders to accommodate a large concurrency of players in the Molten Front.
- The Fiery Behemoths and Molten Behemoths are now the same size.
- Rayne Feathersong has been moved from the cave and is still available as a daily quest giver at Malfurion's Breach.

I don't get why they bothered to gate the dailies if they were just going to lift the restriction a week later. Did they just cave to the complaints that people had to actually put some effort into non-group content?
theRaptor Jul 7th 2011 7:55AM
Being stuck on a gate isn't effort.
Though I don't know why people complained. The whole point of dailies is to slow people down.
Amaxe Jul 7th 2011 8:56AM
I think of it this way.
The Tournament in WOLK was gated.
What would you think if, after achieving the preliminaries there Blizz said you didn't have to do them and those Aspirant (or whichever) Marks you had to earn were going to be skipped over for future players and suddenly there were a bunch of new players who were suddenly at your level of gating?
Wouldn't that make the things you did... pointless?
What pisses us off is that people who wait benefit and those who started and worked diligently have nothing to show for their work.
theRaptor Jul 7th 2011 9:17AM
@Amaxe
I was referring to people who whinged about having to wait A WHOLE DAY to proceed to the next part of the chain.
And even those who "worked diligently" (like me) don't have much to complain about as it is A WHOLE DAY™. We aren't talking about weeks/months of work being thrown out.
This is no different to nerfing raid content and the like. It isn't a big deal. The reward for being first is in being first.
SamLowry Jul 7th 2011 10:33AM
The idiocy is that you were told to get 20 marks (which you couldn't accumulate in a single session) and then talk to some guy, and that's it. At least in the tournament you were told that once you accumulated 15 of this then 25 of that then all sort of neat benefits would open up. You get no explanation like that here, just grind for points because we want you to.
Amaxe Jul 7th 2011 10:41AM
It's nothing like nerfing raids (In my first comment I pointed out it's not like the changing the wintersaber mechanics either). Nor is it a matter of "A WHOLE DAY" as you keep pointing out in your appeal to ridicule fallacy.
The point is, there is no reason not to leave the gate in place, but since they took it down there is the matter of making it worthless to have made the effort in the first place.
It's not like a raid having a stringent lockout when introduced and then becoming easier when the need for the difficulty is no longer relevant.
You're right in the sense that **NOTHING** in the game is worth getting worked up over. However, since we are playing to get better pixels we'd like Blizz not to be arbitrarily changing things. If it's a matter of "oops, we screwed up on patch day," fine. Blizz knows when people completed certain quests and can compensate people who got screwed on patch day.
But as I said below, Blizz is pissing on our leg and saying it's raining.
Jabadabadana Jul 7th 2011 12:49PM
Amaxe, they have this thing called gold. It helps you buy things, thus it has value. I used to do dailies for no other purpose than to grind out gold, especially in quel'danas for my first epic flying training.
The change to first day marks may be a sign that Bliz feels like they made a poor choice in design, however, additional marks wouldn't give you anything unless you make the mistake of missing a couple dailies. The rate you get them is calculated into how many marks you need to open up the next part. The 4 extra marks wont get you to the next content any faster because you now get more than 4 marks a day.
Kylenne Jul 7th 2011 7:16PM
Amaxe, you're wanking over nothing. This is not a brand new hotfix, it's been in since at least Sunday, since I only started the quests that day and was able to open up the Molten Front stuff the same day (which admittedly confused me a bit, since I was following the guide at Icy Veins).
So what, you're out a handful of days worth of marks, if that? If a handful of days worth of pretend currency is really that big a deal to you, you need to rethink your priorities. Besides, you're carrying on like you're new to WoW. This is hardly the first time Blizzard's made something a bit easier to achieve for people, the only difference is they didn't wait this time (just as a recent relevant example: Chillmaw was quietly nerfed towards the end of WotLK).
Ez Jul 7th 2011 7:17AM
So why don't players who already completed those quests [Fireland Dailies] get extra Marks added? I just checked, at 4:15 am Shu'halo server I don't have extra marks.
theRaptor Jul 7th 2011 8:11AM
Because Blizzard would have to write a bit of code to go through the database and find everyone who had done that quest and give them extra marks. Instead what they did was just change the quest rewards.
Anyway the point of the change isn't to handout some marks, it is to make it so people don't have to wait an extra day before going to Malfurion's Breach.
Amaxe Jul 7th 2011 9:00AM
Technically this is handing out a jump of grinding marks which we could have had if we had been allowed to go through the first day.
Blizz shouldn't piss on our leg and tell us it's raining.
theRaptor Jul 7th 2011 9:21AM
Yes, but these people getting more marks per unit of time aren't going to catch those of us doing it on day one. So why worry?
SamLowry Jul 7th 2011 4:20PM
We're complaining about the idiocy of starting everyone off on this major new questing area that you couldn't do jack shit in on your first day because you couldn't accumulate enough coinage to accomplish anything.
Sure, it's changed now, but who was the genius who thought it was a great idea to make you come back just to accomplish the very first baby step in a very lengthy chain? It's a turn-off instead of an inducement, and shows the whole idea was poorly thought out.
SamLowry Jul 7th 2011 4:21PM
And please black out that comment to make sure everyone slows down to read it.
Thanks!
Kylenne Jul 7th 2011 7:21PM
IMO the only people who deserve any kind of mark compensation is the entire population of Proudmoore, considering Molten Front was pretty much broken all of 7/4 for us (continual disconnects, ridiculous lag even on my highest tier Fios connection, etc). It was virtually impossible to complete the dailies in under a few hours due to the lag. As far as I know, we were the only server high pop or not with that issue, at least according to the forums.
Shade Jul 7th 2011 9:23PM
THEY'RE PISSING ON US AND NOT EVEN GIVING US THE COURTESY OF CALLING IT RAIN
...sorry. I like that quote.
Ez Jul 7th 2011 11:50PM
Well today i have 123 marks. if i had the extra Marks today, i could be doing forlorn spire today. Know what i mean?
baysaz Jul 7th 2011 9:23AM
On the achievement The Fiery Lords of Sethria's Roost, I wish they would make it like in Tol Barad where if you participate in the kill you get credit. Now, I guess you have to be in a made group or get it tagged first.
talnhess Jul 7th 2011 9:48AM
I got credit on one of the kills last night and not only was I not the first one to hit the elite, but I was Alliance with a Horde killing the mob. I think it's inconsistent as to when it gives credit, but it's supposed to give it to anyone who participates.
Droopox Jul 7th 2011 10:40AM
Well I participated in the kill of Andrazor twice from the time they started attacking it, and I still don't have credit for killing him. This is pissing me off, cuz I'm usually doing the dailies there alone.
