I started leveling my goblin mage a couple of months ago and am having a blast with it. I kept with frost until level 80 then switched to arcane for the extra dps. Frost was a lot fun but I'm finding arcane a bit boring. From reading this article and the comments, I may have to give fire a chance.

My fire mage is pretty much my main, and it's a very, very fun spec to play. Look up the mod "Combustion Helper", it's a great help - the spell Combustion effectively makes a bunch of your DOTs into a great burning mega-DOT, and that mod keeps an eye on when it's perfect to trigger the spell.Hope you like hurling giant flaming boulders at your enemies. Trust me - 75 levels later, it still never gets old. ^_^

My plan for my mage is to level him as fire. Once I get to 85 I'll learn how to play arcane and likely do that for progression fights where every bit of DPS is needed (the faster the boss dies the less mana the healer uses and the less likely the tank(s) die). I'll play fire on farm bosses and dungeons.

Thanks for the tip, Mused! I have a few days off from work coming up so I think I'm going to give that try =)
