Around Azeroth: Overlogging
While cleaning out the Around Azeroth inbox, I stumbled around this screenshot, submitted anonymously during the days of Wrath. Remember how horribly overfarmed Sholazar Basin was? Remember how, when doing a circle around the exterior for Saronite Ore, you would always run into at least three other people in the same orbit? This is the inevitable result. Good thing that Uldum is already a desert wasteland, or it might meet the same fate.

That looks untextured and very barren. Yet, there is a lot of detail in the terrain. I would have thought Blizzard's artists would start with rough shapes, to make a playable space and then dress it up later. It seems they do form, then function, then polish.

Is this from the Alpha or something? It most definitely looks incredibly unfinished...

Nope, it's when you teleport in Sholazar and game is still loading all the assets (tree models and textures).

To add to what Tremelizzer said, it's what you see (especially if you have an older computer) when you teleport to Sholazar while riding the helicopter from Dalaran for the zone-starting quest.

Took me a while to figure out where this was! I knew something funky was going on, but I initially thought it was the Abyssal Maw. It's actually River's Heart, of course, but I was confuzzled for a while.
