The younger set tend to view things in absolutes, so it wouldn't be an uncommon thing for them to equate a genuine limitation to an excuse. The reasoning goes something like, "Good players's do X, therefore anyone who does not do X is not a good player." Unfortunately, that's also where the reasoning stops.
