Honor compensation date announced for recent PVP gear debacle

I think this is a pretty good compensation package for players who were not informed of the change in how PVP gear would be handled this season. The biggest issue from the debacle was that players spent a huge amount of time and effort grinding out honor for ilevel 365 gear during the off-week, then spent it, only to see the gear became useless just days later. Now that work has essentially been restored in the form of new, shiny, over-the-cap honor points. You will not be able to earn more honor points until you dip below the cap again, however.
Season Transition Compensation Action
For our lack of forewarning on the inclusion of new item level 371 gear with Season 10 we'll be providing the previously announced (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2794770941) 4000 Honor Point compensation during scheduled maintenance on July 19.
During maintenance, 4000 Honor Points will be automatically applied to all characters that spent Honor on any item level 365 items following the release of 4.2, between the June 28 and July 5 maintenances.
The compensation Honor Points given will be able to go over the point cap, but anyone who goes over will not be able to earn more Honor until they spend under the 4000 cap. Any Honor over the cap will need to be spent before the start of Season 11 when it will be converted to gold. Any characters receiving the compensation honor will also receive an in-game mail explaining the compensation and additional details.
Again, we apologize for not communicating the item level 371 gear introduction, and hope these 4000 Honor Points will offer you some help in obtaining the correct items.

"More folks OUGHT to have guessed 371 was down the pike, and planned accordingly."
I think this issue is often communicated badly so people think this is the way it usually goes. As Ironcrust indicated, though, this was not something anyone could have guess was coming down the pike because it's not the way it's ever gone.
The PvE analogous situation would be this. 4.2 drops and all that nice 359 gear gets moved from the Valor Vendor to the Justice Vendor. Cool! You haven't been raiding but wanted to get into Tier 12 raids. Now you can do a bunch of heroics and get all that 359 gear to get ready, so you do.
One week later, they remove all that gear from the Justice Vendor and replace it with the same named items, but they're all slightly better at 365 iLevel. Now, you'd be encouraged to do the exact same grind to replace your 359 tier 11 gear with 365 tier 11 gear.
Obviously this would be annoying, and you wouldn't expect someone to suggest you should have expected it to happen that way.
I'm not saying you're being a jerk. Exactly what happened is confusing and unclear to people who don't PvP much. I didn't understand the issue either until I finally did some looking into it.

Touché on what one ought to expect. Haven't really followed the ins and outs of pvp gear through time.
Bah, I'm mostly just annoyed by the sheer number of people who are outraged over this (probably just a self-selection problem...), when the solution bliz is implementing is ultimately very fair, imho. I figure if a similar thing happened in PvE to me, I'd shrug and think "well, this gives me something to do next week." I've never felt "I've got to grind to get tier this week" but rather have just played the amount I've felt like playing, before and after I've gotten the stuff I wanted.
Which, ultimately, is my other frustration-with-the-frustrated. I'd suppose a lot of the people who play for 20k honor like to play marathon PvP, and probably would have kept playing the next week anyhow, and they got upgrades in the meanwhile.

The compensation is too light, but the fact that Blizzard is acknowledging a mistake and at least trying to make it right (something that will hopefully start a trend with them) makes up for that. Kudos.

Reading this Blue Post has me thinking to the week between season 9 and season 10. My arena partner and I each opened three tickets. Each time the ingame GM told us the same thing; "Nothing is wrong, we (Blizzard) made no mistake and everything happened as intended."
As we both knew this was not the case, it was frustrating and resulted in a loss of confidence.
I am greatful that Blizzard is now admitting to the mistake and trying to compensate us accordingly although it still seems like a little too late considering our loss.

Unfortunately, the in-game GMs aren't always privy to all the Dev information. They're like the guy behind the counter at the store. They probably weren't being deceptive on purpose, and more than likely honestly thought that things were all on the up and up.

Imagine that. Blizzard didn't compensate _everyone_. Never saw that one coming. /sigh

Yeah, no compensation here, either =(

Well the 19th has come and gone and along with many others that spent honor on the 365 gear we have as yet to see the 4000 honor promised by Blizzard. Ok guys you seem to get answers faster so how about an update.
tearsong6 Jul 20th 2011 9:56AM
So what about the rest of us that are sitting here with downed servers, and rarely PVP?

I kind of wish I knew about The switch in gear as I spent the off week farming honor to get the complete season 9 gear and when the change happened I wasn't exactly amused lucky a few of my items I was able to refund for the newer gear but then I went off to farm the whole season 10 gear in a another week so now
I like the 4000 honor I woke up to this morning shame it doesn't make up for the 2 weeks of honor grinding and the gold I spent on the enchants but I did buy 2 mounts out of it tho
