Breakfast Topic: What WoW character would you like to have coffee with?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
Ner'zhul. Medivh. Zul'jin. Uther the Lightbringer. Malygos. Aegwynn. King Terenas Menethil II. Archimonde. Rend Blackhand. Kel'Thuzad. Grom Hellscream. Alleria Windrunner. Illidan Stormrage. Lady Vashj. Gul'dan. Sir Anduin Lothar. Dagran Thaurissan. Archmage Antonidas. Turalyon. Orgrim Doomhammer.
These and many other legendary characters played major roles in shaping the Azeroth we know today. Some were heroes, championing their causes with honor, courage, and compassion. Others were villains, sowing seeds of pain, destruction, and chaos. Still others were merely bystanders or victims, caught beside or within the crossfire of the world's many wars. Each met their end, some too soon, others far too late.
We know their stories as history tells them... but what of the personal tale? What of the man or woman behind the legend? We have little to nothing recorded on the thoughts of these influential leaders, murderers, thinkers, and watchers. What if we could obtain an autobiographical account firsthand? What if we could meet with one of these titanic figures and hear his side of the story?
Ruling out the fact that some characters refuse to stay dead (Kael'thas Sunstrider, I'm looking at you), and assuming the nastier villains wouldn't kill you on sight (perhaps we'll host the event in a neutral city like Shattrath), which deceased figure from Warcraft history would you sit down for a cup of Blended Bean Brew with? What would you ask him?

Id personally go for Broll Bearmantle, he's lived through millenia and, I personally think he's an interesting character!

Cairne Bloodhoof
Hob Jul 14th 2011 10:38AM
Absolutely.
I'd ask him about life before the Horde, what the Barrens and Thousand Needles were like. In some ways it would be like talking to a war refugee or genocide survivor, but instead of delving into the centaur aggression, I'd ask for stories about culture, the lore, what the tauren community was like at that time, any funny stories that might stand out.

Brann Bronzebeard. There are very few people in the world whom I could just sit and listen to them talk (Henry Rollins and Robert Downey Jr. come to mind), but I can only imagine the stories that Brann must have to tell. I don't think talking to him would ever get boring.
Having coffee with Thisalee Crow could also be interesting, if frightening. ^_^
Therinor Jul 14th 2011 8:09AM
...but isnt it only about deceased figures? Thats how I understood the question, and Brann is still alive, until I missed something?
MusedMoose Jul 14th 2011 8:24AM
Ah, I missed that. But since we're talking about fictional characters, I really see no point in making that a requirement for discussion - it's not like we're going to have these chats anyway. ^_^
Shinae Jul 14th 2011 9:44AM
Yeah, I agree with MM. Why should it be a requirement for a character to be dead at this point in the story for us to talk about wanting to have a chat with them?
Alleria Windrunner is one of the examples given, yet she is not confirmed as dead, only MIA.
Prelimar Jul 14th 2011 9:50AM
Brann was my first choice, too. but in interest of staying within the topic's parameters, i'll shift it over to Magni.
Elwoods Jul 14th 2011 11:22AM
Dont you know a discussion with Brann would end with you releasing an Old God or 2.
Ael Jul 14th 2011 11:45AM
Brann as well. But I don't think the drink would be coffee.

Thrall. He is a hipster. He'd have all these deep things to say about the world and all...
wow Jul 14th 2011 8:25AM
I agree with this. A conversation with Thrall would be awesome, even though I play mainly Alliance, I really enjoy Thrall's story in Lore.

Alliance players appreciate Thrall now? Disgusting! All the more reason to banish him from the leadership role forever!

Entire Horde is hipsters!

@Krz -
To quote MC Frontalot:
"If you're slow on the uptake, I'll lay it out
Hipsterism is a religion to which you gotta be devout
You must be seen as in-between unpopular and hate
Or else get excommunicated"

I play alliance and I think the lore for Thrall is some of the best in the game. Would be nice if there was the same amount of it put into anyone on the alliance side. Old Hillsbrad is probably my favorite instance in the game and it's full of Thrall lore. Since we saved his ass from Durnholde I would like to think he would do us a solid at some point. I also have a lot of respect for the Tauren leader and former leader Cairne. Even though I killed him a few times. I was young and needed the achievement (and warbear).
Moonfaxx Jul 14th 2011 2:53PM
I can't speak for the rest of the Alliance, but I still loathe Thrall. Sure, not as much as Hellscream, but he's still Horde. This whole "helping him out" thing that seems to be developing into something pivotal to the whole expansion is pretty ridiculous in my eyes, at least for members of the Alliance. He left his post as Warchief to assist the Earthen Ring, but he's still Horde. Now if someone can convince me that it's all for the greater good and no one else can accomplish what he can (great shaman, blah blah blah, not convinced), then I'll happily jump onboard and put my hate aside (at least until the world is saved, because he'll naturally return to the Horde). For now, though, I'm happy to let him do his own thing without my assistance.

I'm Alliance, and I think Thrall is probably a better character than any we have on our side. The reason being that he is probably one of the only major characters on the Horde side (and one of only a handful on either side) who is not doing his absolute best to bring about pointless war.
Garrosh is a bloodthirsty meathead. Varian is a racist (perhaps rightly so, considering what he's been though) with a vendetta. But all Thrall really seems to want is peace between the sides. It's probably a GOOD thing he's Horde, because he makes a fantastic representative for a group of races who would otherwise perhaps be taken as monsters, especially considering the bloody past some of them have. He is able to represent the Horde and, if people would listen, would be able to represent them well and cast them in a good light.

Being a mage, Id love to have a chance to talk to Antonidas or Medivh (even though I am not sure he is really dead), and pick their brains on old stories, hear more about the story of Dalaran and the development of magic.
King Terenas would be interesting too, I would like to hear his thoughts on Arthas... I always wonder whether he has forgiven his son (the movie after the LK-fight seems to imply it), hear what he has to say now, afterwards...
