WoW Rookie: How to buy someone a gift from the pet store

The Blizzard pet store was introduced nearly two years ago, giving players the opportunity to drop a handful of dollars on fun, interesting in-game pets. Yet the pet store has always been fairly controversial. Paying for in-game content, no matter how little effect that content might have on gameplay itself, simply runs counter to the beliefs of many long-time WoW players.
To me, however, the pet store seems like a exciting new opportunity for gift giving. After all, noncombat pets are only $10, and even mounts are only $25. That's a perfect price range for a "thinking of you" gift, making pets and mounts wonderful little nothings to give to a loved one.
If you've not given a gift from the Blizzard Store before, the process can seem a little intimidating. Here's a simple guide on how to buy someone a gift from the pet store.

2. Check out. Once you've filled your cart appropriately, choose Checkout from the sidebar on the right. At this point, you'll need to log in to the store using your Battle.net account. (You should have one already if you're playing WoW.) If you use an authenticator (and you should), you will be asked to enter the authenticator code.3. Fill out your payment information. Next, you'll be asked to fill out your billing information. This won't be terribly onerous for most of us, since the store knows your Battle.net account already and will populate most of the fields with your existing information. If you're switching cards, though, you'll have to re-enter the numbers. Even if your credit card is already on file, you'll have to enter the CVV or CVC from the back of your card.
4. Make the order a gift. It's a little counterintuitive, but you actually make your order a gift after you've confirmed your order. In the lower right of the final confirmation screen, you'll see a little wrapped gift box. Click that.

5. Send your own email. The bummer here is that you can't customize the email sent to the recipient, so if you want to add your own special touch, now's the time to do it. Open up your own email and send your gift recipient a note. Here's my little love letter for my wife:
And that's all there is to it.You still set my heart aflame,Even after all these years.Lil' Ragnaros is his name,I hope his fire endears.Love,Mike
Currently available mounts at the pet store include the Winged Guardian and Celestial Steed. Available noncombat pets are Lil' Ragnaros, Moonkin Hatchling, Lil' K.T., Pandaren Monk, and Lil' XT. There are also two plush dolls, a Gryphon and a Windrider, that come with an additional in-game pet.
Embrace the pet store gift opportunity for what it is, and give a gift to your loved ones. Regardless of how you feel about microtransactions, these little pets are really a great opportunity to show someone you care.

The only thing i have never liked about the store - that picture of the night elf on the redemption screen. Why is she so pissed? I just bought something - shouldn't she be HAPPY?

She's glaring at you because you didn't buy more.

It's not a glare, it's a warning.
"Take good care of that little Moonkin... Or else."

She's seen your longing, desperate gaze and found you unworthy. Or maybe she's only into gnomes, who knows.

Also, something to make sure of, and I only say this because somehow I made the (stupid!) mistake of accidently buying from the wrong store, make sure you're in the right region (US, EU) store. This sounds sooo simple, so much like something that doesn't even need to be mentioned, but.. when I was buying the moonkin as a birthday gift for someone, I got all the way through the transaction (which means the gift email was sent) before I realized that I had made a purchase from the EU store. I know exactly what I did, I googled blizzard store, didn't even look at the url once I got there. Logged in, authenticated, clicked what I wanted (since I already knew) and checked out. Didn't notice the euro symbol rather than the US dollar.. since it appeared to be the same price (10 euros, 10 us dollars). But, when my friend tried to redeem the code she got an error message, and after being on the phone with blizzard for over an hour (on hold mostly), it was figured out that I bought the wrong region's code and that they aren't interchangeable or "fixable" other than to return and purchase the right one.
Both sets of Blizzard service people were nice and helpful. The US person apologized that there really wasn't anything he could to to make it work in a quick and easy way. And the EU person that responded to my email was apologetic and said my refund had been processed and included the link the the US store. :) Though, I've never had a real issue with Blizzard support - my only complaint is the on-hold wait time. But really, once you get to talk to someone they've all been nice and helpful and its always worth the hour or more you may spend on hold.
I ended up purchasing another moonkin the next day for my friend, and when the refund hit my bank account, bought another one for me. :)

Important: Make sure that person doesn't have the pet/mount already! Now made easy with the new armory feature. :)
I've had two people giving me a moonkin hatchling... However I never told the second person that I've already had one, since I didn't want to disappoint him or make him feel stupid for it. ^^" Well, at least now I don't have the problem of choosing which pet to summon, I just summon my baby moonkin and think of both the lovely people who gave one to me. :)
