WoW Moviewatch: How to Tell If Your PUG Will Fail
Wowcrendor has nailed the universal experience PUG experience with this video. That probably shouldn't be a surprise, given his history of success, but I was almost shocked at how accurate this portrayal turned out to be.
If you're skeptical, let me assure you these things do happen. During a recent run of about 10 PUG groups, I came across two healers who were actually DPSers. They both asked someone else to heal. I hear the same thing happens with tanks, but since that's my preferred dungeon role, I never observe this myself.
In the end, this is a nice video from Wowcrendor. I just can't decide if it makes me want to laugh or cry.

Baahahaha Oh we've all been THERE.
Mordok Jul 15th 2011 12:12PM
WE ALL can blame this on Blizz. I try and try to understand their thinking but it eludes me every time.
PUGs can be fun but now we have to deal with players trying to circumvent the system. This good idea, extra rewards, was designed to expedite things but, in my humble opinion, has further complicated things.
There has to be a better way. If I could come up with one, I probably could make a fortune.

Auto-detection for role-appropriate specs?
Astoreth Jul 15th 2011 12:29PM
Just because they have a healing/tanking spec doesn't mean they know how to use it. Or are geared for it.
Kurash Jul 15th 2011 1:28PM
"...players trying to circumvent the system."
I don't think that this is something we can blame on Blizzard. If the players are circumventing the system then it means that they are not behaving as Blizzard would like them to. The bottom line is that we need players to actually behave with some semblance of maturity. What is sad is that very clearly many don't.

I'm pretty sure that you can report players for queue'ing as a role they are unwilling to play. Its not a great solution, but one can hope that maybe they'll learn.
SR Jul 15th 2011 12:12PM
I've yet to encounter a DPS queueing as a healer so far. Must be a Horde thing. :P
Ilmyrn Jul 15th 2011 12:28PM
yeah, me neither. I've seen a few DPSers queue as tank, but they usually actually TRY to tank. When I was on my main, I used to be willing to take over tanking for them, but if I'm not getting a satchel out of it, I'm not tanking a pug.
Real ID Heroics are a godsend.
Aalokor Jul 15th 2011 12:33PM
It happens more at lower levels. For a while it doesn't matter much, then when you start getting to the point where it does, people have gotten used to not having to respec.

moral of the story, roll a tank, don't use LFG?
Sqtsquish Jul 15th 2011 1:48PM
Moral of the story? use the cross real real id tool to always queue with only people you know- win

Yessssssssss WoWCrendor.

On a related note this was the perfect "How to tell if your _______ is bad" video to incorporate the Go Guy yet he is no where. I am slightly disappointed! (but not enough to stop watching his videos! ;3)
zweitblom Jul 16th 2011 1:25AM
That's because he's already run ahead and is about to bring back at least two mob groups...

Go Guy for Horde Warchief!
Tim Jul 15th 2011 12:16PM
Was in a group where some idiot DID queue as a tank and didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. After the others in the group berated him to no end I kindly said, "It's wrong to queue as a tank because you don't like long queue times Mr. 10 year old." We promptly kicked his cheating ass.
Vitos Jul 15th 2011 12:16PM
Hmmm. I don't have these problems. Probably because I tank, and I don't care if the dps is there or not. Sure some fights are hard without them, but there aren't any berserk timers, so as long as my healer is awake, I can get somewhere. And if the healer is bad, I can trust the dps shaman to heal me. Because they are main-specced healing, but don't want to in a PuG, but since this is the only way we get anywhere, they cast Maelstrom fueled healing waves.

I suppose you could make a series on just this subject. I'd add:
- "the tank / leader" who assumes everyone wants to skip everything possible (Got quests? Tough!).
- the person who critiques your gear and / or play, despite his / her own being worse.
- the half asleep literally or figuratively guy, who strolls into / pulls random mobs
- the coffee addict, who shouts gogogo and goes too fast.
- the stoner, who walks his character around (I've seen these - who want to admire their gear)
- the list goes on and on

Re: Skipping "unnecessary stuff"
Oh man, you know which dungeon is the worst for that? Blackrock Depths. I constantly got the group that just wants to chain-run the prison (for their satchel) over and over. Other bosses? Nope. Quests? Booooring.
