Breakfast Topic: Do you collect pets and mounts?

Just last night, I got Plenty of Pets. I know, I know ... I'm a bit behind the curve. My husband, on the other hand, has pages and pages of pets. And pages. And he's a hunter. He even has the pets you have to purchase. He doesn't have the Winged Guardian yet, and it's driving him nuts. Payday is on Friday, though. I suspect it will be added to his menagerie at that point.
Our guild is composed of people who love their pets, too. When we are standing around waiting for the next boss or instructions from our illustrious leader, it starts to look a bit like a traveling zoo. Pugs are running around dragging their hind ends on the floor, Onyxian Whelplings are taking deep breaths, Pandaren are bowing, and Lil' KTs are Frostbolting random critters. It's chaos, but hilarious!
Are you a pet collector, or could you not care less? Which pet is your favorite? Any particular reason? Do you just really like the way they look, or do your pets and mounts have a specific action that you love? I must secretly be a 12-year-old boy, because every time I see a "pug wipe," I start giggling uncontrollably. I know. I can't help it.

I don't care much about either pets or mounts. I only use one mount anyway, and most pets get on my nerves after a few minutes. One exception is the Enchanted Lantern a guildie made for me, I love it and actually have it out a lot. But that's, you know, one. Not 25 or 100 or whatever.
As for mounts, I mostly go for what's pretty and suitable. I LOVE the headless horseman mount which I have on my priest Revnah. And the dark phoenix is just gorgeous. My Tauren warrior rides the winged guardian because it's the only mount Tauren don't look too big on. Other than that? Couldn't care less.
I have a particular dislike of drake mounts - I know a lot of them are very special rewards for achievements or super-rare drops but I don't care, they're ugly and way too big. Characters standing on a mailbox or questgiver/vendor on a drake mount are one of my pet peeves (ow, ow, bad pun! Bad!).

I know what you mean about the drakes. The regular ones I am not to fond of. The proto drakes are now my favorite. I used to not like how their wings flopped on the ground. I do like how they look in the air and "feel" while riding. The netherdrakes are cool too. I am also like you in that once a toon has a decent air and ground mount he is basically done. Although I do want to go for 100 mounts on one toon- just haven't decided which one yet. As for companion pets I am kind of the same with that as well. Except for my shaman who I have dedicated to pet collection. All I can say is it is definitely a lot more work than you would think. I'm up to around 78 pets. I do respect all of you who have acquired 100-125-150+ /salute.

I kind of like the albino drake, but that's it.

My main (my undead shadow priest) collects pets, but not with any sense of dedication.
I can't bring myself to collect mounts. I just get the ones that seem cool or special to me.

i'm a avid/frenzy mount collector myself - not only am i a perfectionist, but choosy as well. which is why, to be frank - blizzard's mount collecting/selection system so far, at times, is testing the very limits of my tolerance
not everything is doom and gloom - i loved how they treat the new Rated BG achievement mounts, making it easier for your alts to get them as well
my greatest grief - is perhaps how they removed some of the, in my opinion, best mounts from the game for simple vanity reasons
Naxx achievement drakes, ToGC mount drops, the original level 60 epic 'armorless' mounts - in fact, we can even include older season gladiator mounts to the list of 'great mounts that should have stayed'. those are some of the best mounts - which not only would have greatly amplify our choices, but adding more flavour as well.
those 'older' gladiator mounts could even serve as a great honor point, or even conquest point sinks - adding much needed vareity to the stale old roster of PvP mounts.
heck - speaking of PvP, how about spicing it up with allowing cross-faction mounts, with a twist?
we heard requests/demands time to time how horde love horses/tiger, while the alliance wants raptors/skeleton charger in return. how making that happen with the BG system?
like say - a bag that have a chance dropping a random orc wolf/NE tiger for winning a WSG game on a WSG week, while the bag drops a random forsaken/human 'horse' for winning AB on a AB week etc etc.
THAT alone, would make BG itself a much more rewarding effort itself in winning games
i could list-out specific details on my ideal 'solution' to 'improve' this condition, but i'll just leave this at here for now
for i am certain, that i am NOT, the only one feeling the very same on our current status on mounts/pets

I don't collect mounts or pets, but what I do, is go for a cool one and stick with it.
Example, on one of my characters, I really wanted the engineer helicopter. I got it and used it for a long time.
Like when I played Pokemon, I didn't try to catch 'em all. I had my very small team and stuck with it to the end.

I forgot to talk about companion pets.
The only one I use is Lil' Deathwing. http://www.wowhead.com/item=62540
My wife bought the collector's edition of Cataclysm, so I used to take him out all the time, but his constant wing flapping got on my nerves.
The only time I bought a companion pet was to put it on the neutral AH.

I do the same thing. I'm an altoholic, and every toon gets exactly ONE cool pet and ONE cool mount that none of the others share, and they keep those ones forever.
Example, my Unholy DK went out and earned a Veridian Netherdrake just because the sickly green color went so well with the Unholy runes and the whole "disease-y" motif. And the pet she uses is the Fox Kit, as a testament to her unhealthy obsession to farming leather... I was never specifically farming for the Fox, but I ended up killing more foxes than most people who actually *are* looking for it, simply as a matter of course while killing absolutely everything with a peel-able hide in Tol Barad for countless hours.
My Mage has her Red Nether Ray and her Giant Sewer Rat, my Paladin has his Cenarion War Hippogryph and his White Kitten (hey, White Kittens are cooler on Hordies!)... won't bore ya with the full list, but each alt has a similar unique combo.
Also.... most of my boxes in Pokemon were empty, too. Heh.

Spirit of Competition, rare and funky looking.
MattKrotzer Jul 18th 2011 8:40AM
Man, I farmed for days and days, and never got one of those. It still irritates me.

I was out of the game for the entirety of the Olympics, so I missed out on this completely. I thought you were trolling because until I just now looked it up, I thought the pet was automatic for winning like the tabard was automatic for participating.
With that last piece of information in place, I now know everything about World of Warcraft.

154 pets here, 4 from the store/tcg. First it started as a means to get a couple of achievement points, but eventually i kinda grew attached to them. Despite all the rare ones I managed to get, Wolpertinger is by far my favorite.
Oh, and i feel sorry for anyone who doesnt giggle a little when the pug wipes the floor.
Tricia Jul 18th 2011 8:21AM
I collect mini pets mostly, but also mounts to a slightly more limited degree. Having reached 134 mini pets the other day I'm working hard on getting my Celestial Dragon for 150 collected.
I think my favorite if the phoenix hatchling. I let it fly around after me all the time.

Usually I never had pets out much. Recently though on my Priest who I play alot now a days, I keep the armadillo out. Its small and not bothersome, and I really like it. I also like I don't have to resummon it after every dismount and all.
Noyou Jul 18th 2011 12:47PM
I like the constant summoning thing and then I don't like it. Sometimes it's like, "You again? Really?" The only one I never seem to get tired of is Egbert. He's always got that look on his face. I like timing it and emoting /go. Maybe it is just me but I end up clicking on my pets while trying to loot more often than not. That's when I wish the pets were not on perma-summon. Definitely need to make a macro for that ;)
themightysven Jul 18th 2011 8:28AM
Not nearly as many as some of my guildies (several of whom. Have either gotten the squirrel or are with in 5) I prefer to get one that fits, like a wolpertinger for my rogue, or a flying carpet for my mage. My favorite pet animation has got to be Mr. Grubbs his unexpected leaping brings a smile to my face
Lloren Jul 18th 2011 8:32AM
My favorite pets are my enchanted lantern and my hyacinth macaw. The lantern is just really cool looking and the macaw is so pretty. I also really like the new balloon pets, though more for a boss kill pic with all of the raid members holding them. It's just awesome. :) As for mounts, I am only a couple away from finally getting the Mountain of Mounts achievement, but since I'm a Druid I basically just use flight form most of the time.
Zable Jul 18th 2011 8:38AM
I just managed to get my Celestial Dragon a week or so back. I'm an avid collector of pets and mounts both. In fact, my guild has a standing rule of having non-combat pets out before raid pulls!
Aside from the dragon, my favorite is probably the Dark Phoenix Hatchling. Because I got those 55 exalted reps all on my own.
MattKrotzer Jul 18th 2011 8:42AM
My guild has the opposite policy, because it wreaks havoc on the folks with less powerful graphics cards. 25 people with non-combat pets is a LOT of extra rendering.
