We try to take the dogs down more or less at the same time. Shannox puts some sort of debuff on the tanks and it can stack. My guild has me on Riplimb a good % of the time. The reason being, I can slow him with Mind Flay and delaying him from reaching Shannox allows the debuff to fall off. I have to very carefully watch my threat though since the tank cannot build threat on Riplimb when he's running around with the spear.

I think most people suggest taking out Rageface early on is that the reduction of random raid damage more than makes up for the 30% increase on the Shannox tank. But either way works as long as the specific raid group is comfortable with it.
