The Daily Quest: Examining and defining

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
I love the new map animation, and I love the fact that it works when you're checking your mail, too. Although I still don't quite understand what the heck I'm looking at. Is that a treasure map? Some weird island? Outland? Maybe some sort of weird Rorschach test?
Good question. While I'm puzzling out possible answers, why don't we take a look at a few posts from around the blogosphere that also attempt to figure things out?

I like the new map animation. I really do. But to log in each time and have your character giving face love to their map (where did you go, user?!) seems a tad excessive. That and fishing. You can no longer fish and take a peek at your map (for any various reason) without canceling your cast, because the map animation interupts it. A slight oversight on Blizz's part.

But it makes sense, though. I don't really look at my map when I'm fishing anyway, out of fear of missing that tug.

I do love the map/mail animation, especially the way Tauren move their mouths when reading. They also apparently read right to left.

I also dig the map, too.

In my opinion, an exceptional raider is someone who thinks outside the box during a boss mechanic to ensure the boss is downed. I'm not exceptional, but once whilst we were downing Maloriak two of our healers died. We didn't have much health left to go, so I got myself knocked up into the air on purpose, so we had a few seconds without me being hit by the boss. I then used Heroic Leap to get some distance from the boss, and kited him by Intercepting a healer until he was killed.
Another example might be to taunt the boss as a dps then run away, so the boss spends around 5 seconds running towards the dps then back to the tank - giving the healers time to top everyone up.
Sure number-crunchers are useful, but the top *top* raiding guilds need people like I've described above, as well as being able to maximise their character.

I'm not sure how many people know this, but if you do /read in game, you do the map animation. I like making people think I'm not paying attention to the screen when I really am.

I really like the map animations. The small things like that are really nice to have in the game.
New post up at Corath's Blog (http://corath.wordpress.com)... all about what you can learn from WoW! Yes, it's not just something that wastes time and eats your life! ... well, not entirely.
