The Queue: When I am through with you ...

Trefpoid asked:
Has anybody else noticed that female Naga have been given shirts all of a sudden? Why has this happened? Did someone find that female naga where to provocative going around topless or is Blizzard trying out something else? a friend suggested maybe they are trying to see how they look with armour, maybe as a future playable race, but Blizzard has already stated that playable races need to have legs.. so what has happened here? It's really weird to see all these nagas with chinese styled clothings all of a sudden and with no explanation.
It does seem to be an intended change, though bear in mind that naga have been able to wear armor since The Burning Crusade. It could be that there's something being planned for the naga, or at least there's been a movement to humanize them (or elfize them, as it were). As of right now, though, if you want playable naga, the closest you'll probably get is the WoW TCG's upcoming Throne of the Tides expansion.
Proffesor Orc asked:
A while back it was mentioned on the Queue that Joystiq is working on overhauling the comment system and that would in turn affect WoW Insider. Have there been any updates on this front?
We're due for a site overhaul similar to the ones that Joystiq and Massively got, but we don't currently have an ETA. You're welcome to comment on some Joystiq posts to see how you like it.
Mateo asked:
Why don't quest kills count if said kill is caused by a defensive buff/pet/etc.? For instance, when I'm doing low level quests on my hunter and my pet kills the target before I can get a shot off, that kill doesn't count. Or when I'm on my shaman and a mob attacks me while I have lightning shield up, that won't count toward my quest objective. I'm pretty sure my wolf and lightning shield wouldn't mind letting me have the kill in these situations.
You didn't need to take any action for the kill to occur, so you don't get credit for it.
alzeer asked:
now that azeroth is revamped and we got zones that we couldn't access prior to cataclysm , other than emerald dream, are there any areas that we cant reach left on azeroth?
At this point, nearly all of the inaccessible or areas not yet on the map that are left in Azeroth are islands, such as Kul Tiras, Hiji, Zul'Dare, and Crestfall. There aren't any huge land masses left that we're aware of, and they certainly didn't appear on the maps of Azeroth in Ulduar -- but hey, it's not like Blizzard can't just do a "titan cloaking device!" retcon or something, like it did with Uldum.

When you get the Dragonwrath quest, there's a cut scene where, among other possibly spoilery things, Anachronos shows you the whole planet of Azeroth from a distance. It looks as though the programmers took the image file of the Azeroth world map, and placed it on a sphere. There's no continent west of Kalimdor and east of the Easter Kingdoms, just ocean.
Although, my tin-foil hat tells me that it could be that Anachronos knows that at the time you meet him, you aren't aware of any other landmasses in the world, and is showing you a map that matches.

if you take control of your pet and then kill something does that count?
Hrothgar Jul 25th 2011 10:22AM
It could be even more simple than that. I select a mob, I tell my pet to attack it. My pet is a weapon that does damage. The excuse that I didn't take any action doesn't float.
Blizzard hasn't gotten around to changing the rules for pet damage because they have taken most of their devs and put them on Titan. It might eventually get "fixed" but I rather doubt it.

I have a request. Can the queue please edit/rephrase the questions they receive? For instance "female naga where to provocative," really? I understand that you can't change the phrasing when you quote someone directly, but please paraphrase or use brackets to indicate changes. It would improve readability and set a better example for people reading the site that are younger and/or have not yet perfected their English. Reading is a great way to improve grammar and spelling but only when the reading material itself is well written.
trefpoid Jul 24th 2011 3:01PM
Uhm, sorry about that, I don't live in an english speaking country, I can make mistakes :(
Cephas Jul 24th 2011 4:07PM
You shouldn't have to apologize. Everyone makes mistakes. Nobody expects commenters to be perfect, but WoW Insider does have professional writers and editors, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to do a little editing to improve readability and understandability.
Cambro Jul 25th 2011 12:10AM
I agree. And some ancient copywriter (who spoke Latin) invented a little thing calls "[sic]" to show that if they quoted something with an obvious typo or grammatical error, the error belonged to the person they're quoting, not the copywriter. :)

Question for the Readers of the Queue (applicable also to writers):
What do you find most interesting in this column? The article or the readers' comments?
Proffesor Orc Jul 24th 2011 1:27PM
Reader's Comments. This is mainly because as a general rule the Queue usually won't have questions that can only be answered by pure speculation but in the comments any question, thought, or idea can be discussed and dissected.
Plus the comments section tends to have some incredibly witty responses.

I wish there was something in-game to remind people that Blood Elves didn't take the name because of the addiction to magic or the choice to turn to fel sources. They took the name to honor those who were slaughtered by Arthas when he destroyed the Sunwell.
I also wouldn't mind an explanation as to why High Elves still exist as a separate faction. It's like they're going out of their way to say "who cares if most of our race was murdered?"
Proffesor Orc Jul 24th 2011 1:23PM
I always felt that it was weird that there were enough high elves to form a faction. I remember reading somewhere on the old WoW site that although High Elves still existed they were very, very, rare.
This was because being a High Elf wasn't just disliking Blood elf politics, it involved finding ways to cope with your magical addiction without using arcane torrent, fel crystals, or Mu'ru/sunwell. This explains why their eyes aren't green but to survive magical addiction without these aids was incredibly difficult for most.
I don't mind finding a few High Elf NPCs in the world but having an entire faction of them feels like it dilutes the amount of influence and presence Blood Elves have.
Bapo Jul 24th 2011 1:59PM
They probably don't agree with how the horde is, or prefer to stay neutral (yes, I know exclusions apply)
ninjivitis Jul 24th 2011 2:24PM
@Professor Orc: Exactly. Any elf that didn't follow Kael would have been powerless until the Sunwell was reignited, and how did they keep from becoming Wretched in the meantime? I also can't imagine any elf choosing to remain allied with the Alliance after Garathos tried to have them all killed.

The last paragraph should give you some insight about how they dealt with their magic addiction.

Yeah because everyone was supposed to just suck up everything Keal said as gospel, despite the consequences. Sorry, I actually admire the ones that got through it without having to follow that nut-bar. Yeah, he obviously had the well-being of his people in mind the whole time.
From the link:
"On several occasions after the Sunwell's defilement, Kael'thas publicly asserted that his people would die unless they found a new source of magic. Technically the prince was mistaken. According to Azeroth's top priests and medics, the only high elves to perish due to magical withdrawal have been the very old, the very young, and elves who were already in poor health.
Such a low rate of attrition might be considered an argument in favor of simply forgoing magic and suffering through the consequences. Indeed, a few high elves are said to have succeeded in taking this route through sheer willpower: they survived the process, however unpleasant. Apparently certain magical artifacts also ameliorate the symptoms of withdrawal and might, if sufficiently powerful, be able to suppress them altogether."
Varessa even talks about getting through the withdrawal with the help of her family.
Lorne Jul 24th 2011 7:58PM
I always thought that the high elven rangers and mages in Dalaran were there because they were followers of Vareesa Windrunner.
Al Jul 25th 2011 5:11AM
I like seeing the occasional High Elf, because some Emo fruitcake who shows up to give the whole cilivisation an Emo name-change, while teaming up with sea-monsters is bound to create dissenters.
"Just one percent of the survivors" is a lame way to avoid having more, though. Especially since the Darkspears got massacred twice and driven from their home a third time by angry Murlocs. Then one Troll managed to out-last them for 5 years to keep the Echo Isles.
While the Draenei were low-numbered to begin with, even before the Orcs killed enough to make a highway out of their bones.
Jonisjalopy Jul 24th 2011 1:12PM
There's actually 2 in Uldum. There's the hyenas (which is the quest Arrohon was thinking of) and one to kill buzzards.
The one in Vash is probably my favorite because the quest text when you complete the mission says something like "Add this to the list of things you can tell your grand kids you did for them." :D
