Breakfast Topic: How about that one gear slot you can't seem to upgrade?

People pride themselves on getting the best gear for their characters, whether it's for competitive arenas or to progress as a raider. But do you have that one gear slot that you just can't seem to get an upgrade for? In Cataclysm, I am in a core raiding group and I have been raiding for the past three months -- but after making an almost full clear of both BoT and BWD and countless heroics, not one wand has dropped from any of the bosses.
It's getting to a frustrating point. The truly sad thing is, it is the one slot that is stopping me from getting the achievement Cataclysmically Superior. I wonder if other people have this problem? Has there been a piece of gear that, no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to find a replacement for? It there a blue quest necklace still dangling around your neck? Are you still running around Stormwind or Orgrimmar in green shoes?

My Warlock's wand was the one thing as well. It got to the point that I just dropped some Conquest points on last season's pvp wand instead.

Yep agreed! I couldn't get that wand to drop for my mage either! I ended up dropping conquest for it, and runnin around all PvE except for one slot....ugh! It was embarrasing but got the job done.

Ya know...for being a master of QQ, you aren't very good at it. There's usually at least some semblance in QQ of following the discussion, at least at the start. Griping about Hunter ilevel in a conversation about wands? Bad form, yo.

I think maybe it's just that slot...my Shaman had the same relic from Level 50 to level 83/84. It wasn't that I didn't want an upgrade, I just couldn't find any.

I was and still am pretty lucky on loot drops on my holy pally but my rogue is a completely different story. The heroic ilvl 346 thrown weapon would never drop for me. I had a green item for months until I just broke down and bought the BoE off the AH.

Snap for me too the only 333 & 346 thrown never dropped (didn't help that it was on an optional boss in Halls of Origination that few groups wanted to do) but luckily it was filled later by the ZA quest and now the Valor one.
However my 'best' second trinket for my Combat Rogue is still http://www.wowhead.com/item=61462 since none of the good 346 or 359s have dropped, and the Darkmoon card, Baradin's Wardens trinket and the new 365 Molten Front option are all rubbish for me. First trinket is Fluid Death of course. Maybe I need to use a PVP trinket, urgh...

I hear you on the rogue trinkets. I have multiple 359 trinkets in my bank (Unsolvable Riddle, Unheeded Warning, etc.) but that stupid blue Key to the Endless Chamber is still better. At least I was able to equip one of the 359 trinks to get closer to the achievement.

Please enlighten me. Last I checked, the rogue gear sheet spread sheet posted at Elitist Jerks didn't even bother to rank Unsolvable Riddle or Unheeded Warning for combat rogues. Perhaps I'm not smart enough to use Mr. Robot or Shadowcraft, but I can look at a ranked list on a spreadsheet.
Or perhaps not. What am I missing?

I thought it was well known that a lot of the common 359 trinkets were not itemized well for combat rogues, so it doesn't surprise me when EJ or Mr. Robot or Shadowcraft rank them below some 346 trinkets.
Rather than being snarky, why don't you tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I've taken every trinket that I have a reasonable chance of getting my hands on and switched them in and out of Mr. Robot and Shadowcraft and observed the EP scores after applying reforging, gems and enchants. I also pay attention to the hard and soft caps adjust accordingly. I don't just look at the ranking and call it a day.
How am I misusing these tools?

Pants.
Specifically, the Holy Paladin pants that drop from Halfus. I've been raiding just about every week since Cata came out, and have yet to see those pants drop.
What's spectacular about it is...I've since upgraded to the T12 pants, so I no longer need those pants. I've expected, because I've gotten better now, that those pants will finally drop. They haven't.

I used to have the same problem : even ZA/ZG wands were not enough to get the achievement. Solved by buing a PvP wand

Do a few games of arena one afternoon and stick an ilvl 384 wand in there :)
Just reforge the resilience.
