Paragon releases heroic Ragnaros 25-man kill video
The final stage of the fight involves Archdruid Hamuul Runetotem, Malfurion Stormrage, and Cenarius assisting players in dealing with the entirely new mechanics this new heroic mode phase presents. If you've been trying Ragnaros or have killed him, you already have experienced the hilarious Living Meteor ability. In that new phase, meteors must be kited over patches of ice on the ground to freeze them, and then players must DPS down meteors to control the number up at any time. At that point, players are also frantically running around extinguishing ground fires and trapping Ragnaros in roots on the ground.
All in all, it looks incredibly fun and challenging, and it's very nice to see Ragnaros putting his new legs to good use kicking the crap out of guilds across the world. My favorite part of the video has to be the end, with the custom death animation for Ragnaros. Watch until the very end -- it's worth it. Congratulations again to DREAM Paragon for their heroic first kill and for this awesome video of the accomplshment.

So does killing Rag trigger a cut-scene or is it just over after that?
Tdog Jul 28th 2011 12:20AM
Nobody has mentioned a cutscene from what I've heard.
Also from what Paragon said it was more over 500 wipes on the fight.

It seems so hard, I wonder when will my guild down this :) Anyway, it is an amazing video

Is that a bad sign for WoW when the top guild has to merge in order to take down a heroic boss? Or has Paragon had help from other guilds before and it just wasn't publicized as much?
Mugutu Jul 29th 2011 3:24PM
The merge is old news. They didn't get to Ragnaros and say "oh shit we need to merge with others".
Arrohon Jul 27th 2011 9:16PM
How would that be a bad thing even if it were true? It would mean that it was harder than most encounters. Giving guilds a greater challenge is better for WoW as long as it can still be done.

Paragon didn't merge you numpty, they got a sponsorship deal and so changed their name. All of the members are the same. Don't spout rubbish if you don't have the facts.

Must feel good.. After all its like a full time job for them.
Congrats on the kill!

player: 'omg blizzard is so terrible at designing content! what does that say about wow when guilds can clear an entire tier of content in the first week of release?! This is terrible, wow is dead'
blizzard: 'you can't judge a tiers difficulty by the top % of players in the world'
---
players: 'omg, its taking the top % of players 500+ wipes to down the final heroic boss?! What does that say about wow when guilds can't even clear a boss on heroics?! This is terrible, wow is dead'
blizzard: '...'

The screams at the end are priceless. I'm sure people who can't speak Finnish get the gist of it, even without the translations. Oh yes, it's good to be geek.

Although we can't see all of him at once cause he's so huge, is it odd that I find Rag's legs...INCREDIBLY attractive? >.>
Also, ding dong, the witch is dead.

He'll be back!
VSUReaper Jul 27th 2011 8:48PM
Cool death animation, and jesus! Does rag have enough loot on him? What was that? 12 items on his corpse? lol
Natsumi Jul 27th 2011 9:22PM

lucky jerks
pancakes Jul 27th 2011 10:07PM
It's quite possible the mount is a 100% drop on heroic.

I have to hand it to Blizzard - this fight is very, very epic. It hearkens back to the classic Ragnaros fight enough to brew up some nostalgia, but has been changed enough to present a challenge to even the most seasoned of WoW's raiders.
My only criticism would be with the last phase. Though an ambulatory Ragnaros is handled and animated with aplomb, I can't help but feel disappointed that it is still a fairly stationary fight at that point. There is some movement, but it isn't constant motion or even very frequent motion on Rag's part. I think that when you shake up the boss's model and position to the degree that he suddenly becomes ambulatory, then that fact should take center field, and the fight should be in heavy motion for the remainder.
Still though - epic fight. Congratulations to Paragon!
