I'm sure there's been more than one addon spotlight comparing various gathering/map add-ons, but I can't seem to find any. I'd like to know the differences between addons like gathermate and gatherer (the two I can think of off the top of my head) and any others out there.
Also, anyone have any tips for a good addon for speeding up archaeology? I was using the gathermate dots for a while, but then gathermate started having problems with the dots on the minimap holding still while the terrain moved beneath it.

I use Archy for most of my Archaeology needs. I detached the survey button and from the UI and moved it close to my mount buttons so I can easily move back and forth between the two. Plus it comes with a pre-set color indicator on the button so you can match that up to the survey equipment itself. It's not perfect but it does help a lot. Plus, iirc, it also has the ability to show the boundaries of the digsite on your minimap and will overflow that if you allow it - which makes it much easier to figure out if you're still in the right area without having to look at the big map. (It also helps when you're flying into a digsite so you know when you've crossed the boundary.)

For archaeology use Archy. You can do all of your archaeology from the addon and it uses Tomtom to direct you to the nearly dig site. You can also ignore a dig site by right clicking it. Right click again to unignore (for example if the closest site is 3000 yards away to the south while the other three are 4000-6000 yards away to the north. you don't want to back track so much after only grabbing a single site so you ignore it until you grab the northern sites and start to head back south)

I would like to see a map and gathering on article - but hope it includes the world map as well. It seems only big quest addons like Carbonite have nice world map replacements. I'd love to know of an addon - gathering or otherwise - that marks the possible locations of mysterious camels so I can see where to fly to check for them. I've read that gathermate has an import process that will do this, but I must be doing it wrong because the locations aren't on my world or minimap.
