The Daily Quest: Dangerously addictive

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
My first thought upon falling off the ledge in the Molten Front while doing dailies for the Druids of the Talon was, "Oh no, not again." My second thought, a slightly less literary reference, was "Now how am I going to get my body back from this? Can I get my body back? Oh my God, I'm in mostly heroic T11 gear and some T12, how much is this spirit res going to cost me?" And then, it happened. A little bird showed up, snatched me from the jaws of death, gently chided me for not making the silly jump, and placed me gently on the ledge I'd been trying to reach.
Since then, I have joyfully leaped off that ledge every time I have to do those dailies -- partially because I'm lazy, partially because I'm wondering if perhaps, one day, the Druids of the Talon will decide that my rampant stupidity warrants not saving me from certain destruction. It's a sick addiction.
Speaking of addictions, today we've got a post about just that, as well as some other posts from around the blogosphere on a few other topics.

I enjoy the rock jumping. I started gaming from consoles so it's something I have some basis in. When I fall off I just jump back to the mainland and start over. Plus if you take the updraft unto the island/mountain you get an awesome two minute buff that makes every jump as if you're in an updraft.

Ooh, didn't know about the updraft buff. But yeah, as someone who grew up playing the original Super Mario Bros., the platform jumping was a fun bit of nostalgia. ^_^

Updraft also gives a large haste bonus, so as a spriest I just decimate the firehawks and elementals there.

I *HATED* that area. There's just very little (READ: NONE) indication of where the druid rescues begin and where it ends, and if you are unfortunate enough to fall into solid ground on an island underneath it's a 10 minutes of spirit res for you. And those platforms... I don't believe they're made to be jumped around. There's literally no starting platform that you can possibly reach, not even with a running mount head start.
It's Forlorne Spire for me every time. NEVER going back there.

I'm not really sure I understand your statement. I always thought the first floating platform was pretty obvious, I even dismount every time I start jumping (mounting is a bad idea). Some of the platforms will crack and break, in which case you just need to wait a few seconds for them to respawn. Never jump on a platform with cracks that is almost completely flat, and always take the left branch, and you can get to the island in about 20 seconds.

Don't rely on the druids if you're in combat, as I discovered to my chagrin. I was being chased by the Matriarch and thought hey, I'll just jump for it. They apparently don't catch you in that situation....
10 minutes of boredom and 20+ gold for the lesson.

For that same reason I've decided that killing insane fire spiders and detonating what seems to be an object made only of the sun's energy to be easier and more entertaining.

I've fallen without being caught before. :(
raine13 Jul 29th 2011 9:04PM
they never catch me :(

If we knew WHY that thought had passed through the head of the falling Gnome, we would know infinitely more about the Universe.

Hooray for "Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" homage. :D

All I can say about the Molten Front dailies is that the Flameward Hippogryph is SO WORTH IT. I just got mine today and it's absolutely beautiful, perfect for my fire mage. Will I go through getting the mount on any other character? Oh, hell no. But the mount is a reward worth the time. I'm sure I'll be saying the same about "the Flamebreaker" once she has that title.
Also, you make a ton of gold on the dailies. Seriously. My mage is at over 15K without even trying. @_@

I got the mount yesterday.
I like it, but it's little wings remind me of Cee Lo Green's T Rex arms

I found out about the updraft to return you to the main side by accident. I was running to the floating steps after finishing the dailies and was being chased by a couple of rock elementals. One of them did it's knockback, and sent me into the draft I hadn't seen. Next thing I know, I'm flying through the air to land safely on the other side. I laughed at the elemental for helping me to escape. :)

The updrafts were the hardest part for me to figure out, because they blend in with the background quite easily. Once I found out about them it was easier to find, but finding them in the first place sucked.
New post up at Corath's Blog: all about who should have been the Warchief when Thrall stepped down. Each of the leaders of the Horde sent in their job applications, and here's what I think some of them might have looked.

Enjoy!

I found out the hard way, that these lovely little birdies cannot FIND you when you jump off the edge while you're invisible...
I kept falling and falling wondering, "Can that stupid bird see me?"
**DEAD**
Guess not.
crystallinegirl Jul 30th 2011 2:09AM
1. They do not catch you when you're mounted.
2. If you slow fall too far to one side, they also will not catch you.
I did not know about the invisible bug, that's good to know before it happens!
Oddly enough, when I died slow falling, instead of rezzing at the graveyard ON Fireplume Peak, I instead wound up at the graveyard by the portal into the Molten Front. WAY far away.
babywhiz Jul 30th 2011 2:28AM
Yea, that happened to me. There is one spot where there is a ledge that you will die on, and the Druids won't catch you.
Most of the time they do catch ya, but in that one sweet spot, they didn't, and I had to run all the way across to get back to my body.
d Jul 30th 2011 4:40PM
They definitely can catch you if you're mounted. I've had it happen a few times. I don't think they can catch you if you're in combat, though, or if they've caught you 'recently' (how long recently is, I have no idea.)

On the first day I wanted to explore a little, and mounted up and went down what I thought was a slope. Turns out I had miss placed my directional arrow and headed off the side.
A series of Slow fall casts and I finally hit the invisible wall when the molten front wasn't even visible behind me anymore.
