The Queue: And from darkness, a hero arises

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney has taken over this shindig.
Obviously the only thing capable of ridding the world of Holiday and her plans for elemental ascendancy is a beagle in a suit of armor. I wonder how much stamina is on that thing?

Thon asked:
How do sleeping mobs work? Been wondering this today since I've seen sleeping core hounds and char hounds doing my molten front dailies. Do they aggro just like normal mobs? Reduced distance? Don't aggro to proximity at all? What does sleep do?
It depends on the mob, honestly. Back in vanilla, if you approached a mob that was sleeping, it would wake up and begin punching you in the face. In later expansions, if a mob was asleep, you had to be right on top of it or attacking it for it to notice you. Generally speaking, however, if an angry flaming dog is taking a nap, you should probably just let it take its nap.
Sirn asked:
Q: Why is the run-back to Rag so long and painful. More importantly, why do you need to dismount to take the teleporter to Majordomo.
You should have seen the original run back to Molten Core -- before they added Thorium Point. As far as the second part of your question, it is something that nags me every time I have to use that stupid teleporter. I can mount and run to the teleporter, I can mount right after the teleporter, but I can't stay on the mount to go through the teleporter. I don't know what's up with that, but I wish they'd fix it, too!
Klein asked:
Q for the Q
I want to start playing WoW but when my laptop runs it, it gets really REALLY hot quite quickly. What should I do? HELP ME
Hi, Klein! I'd recommend picking up a cooling pad for your laptop. They sell them all over the place now. I used to play on a tablet PC, so I know how hot they can get. If your laptop is getting way too hot to use, though, you might want to reconsider whether your laptop can handle running WoW. Cataclysm is a really graphically intensive game for most laptops, and if you're using one with a standard video card, it may not run optimally.
Thongor asked:
Q for the Q:
Is there an add-on or in game element to let us know what the dailies are in Molten Front? Specifically the bombing run for the Druids of the Talons. I've unlocked everything and really just need the bombing run for the achievement. It's a pain to have to do many dailies just to see if I have a chance to bomb one of my remaining targets.
There's no addon that I've found -- and what quests are available is random. Some days, you'll have the bombing quests; other days, you won't. You might try asking guildies or even in Molten Front local chat if the bombing daily is up. I have seen reports on Wowhead suggesting that once you have the bombing daily, you can keep it indefinitely in your logs so long as you don't kill anything, and just bomb the named mob. The named mob also changes at random. If you don't need to grab marks for anything else, that might be an option for you.
Nessundorma asked:
Reading the Overachiever this week, it occurs to me to ask:
Are there any dragons who choose to take on troll, tauren, dwarf, or goblin form? Seems kind of odd that this ancient race would be so fond of the shape of Vrykul runts and pointy-eared mutants.
Well, there's Rhea out in the Badlands; she's a dragon who on goblin form. As far as the other dragons, it seems they prefer human or elven form. Kalecgos takes it one step further and appears as a half-elf; he's not human, as commonly assumed. When's the last time you saw a human on Azeroth with blue hair? Chromie seems to enjoy being a gnome, but most of the other dragons are either elves or humans, the majority choosing some form of elf.
But that's not as odd a choice as you may think. Way back in lore, dragons took the form of mortals to observe the mortal races undetected -- in particular, those mortal races that used magic in one form or another. Since the dwarves and gnomes are derived from Titan constructs, there's no real reason to observe those races or take those forms (unless you're Chromie, but she's always been a little eccentric). As for trolls and tauren -- well, they don't really have a history of messing with the arcane in a major way, so there's no real reason to observe them. But this is all theory, not established lore, so keep that in mind.
Chetti asked:
Question: I was on my way to farm frostweave in my favorite spot in Icecrown, when I got off the zep at Borean Tundra to grab the flight I noticed two flight paths I didn't have before. Both were along the top, one near the middle and the other off to the far left. I took the one to Shadow Vault (middle one) because it was close to where I wanted to be. When I was dropped off there, I was immediately attacked by some kind of stealthy cultist thing. Killed it, turned to see where the flight guy was, but noticed there wasn't one. Just a bunch of red named mobs. I mounted up to fly to my spot still looking for the flight guy. The map shows there should be one, but I don't see it. Is it supposed to be a one way trip?
Nope! The Shadow Vault is a phased area that you unlock by questing in Icecrown. Theoretically, you shouldn't have had that flight path if you hadn't unlocked it; I'm not sure why it would be showing up for you.
Oh, let's answer one more!
TheRedComet asked:
At the risk of other classes without mounts getting mad at me, do you think Dwarf Paladins will ever get a Paladin-themed ram?
From a lore standpoint, nope. The dwarves learned about being paladins from the humans -- they didn't become paladins all by themselves. So the mounts they use are the human mounts. Draenei were paladins long, long before they ever set foot on Azeroth, so it makes sense that they'd have their own mounts. Blood elves learned to be paladins by using a bendy straw on a captured naaru, so they've got their own mounts. Tauren didn't pick up being paladins from humans; they simply started following An'she, and their chargers are modified versions of their racial mount as well.
See you guys tomorrow!

Q for the Q: Is there a list somewhere that would tell me all of the vanity items/goldsinks introduced in Cata? I recently returned from a break from WoW, and I'm noticing there are a bunch of vendors tucked away places with vanity items for sale and new rare drop pets everywhere.
LynMars Jul 30th 2011 12:14PM
warcraftpets.com is your best bet for finding out anything and everything about where to find any and all pets in game. You can also track your own collection there, though the armory does this now for you.
Jonisjalopy Jul 30th 2011 1:57PM
You can also just use the Armory on BNet. It will show you all the mounts/pets on your character and which ones you're missing.
Blagaah Jul 30th 2011 4:40PM
Try Collectinator. You can filter the list by X-pac. That's probably as close as you'll get in-game.

Plus, according to the Book of Light, chapter 7, verse 22:
"Thou shalt sacrifice a ram, cook its entrails and feed the populous for thy Stamina will be buff-ed."
Rams are a little untrusting because of this and unwilling to be the next, uh, victim.
Sleutel Jul 30th 2011 12:21PM
Nitpick: Populous is an adjective meaning highly populated. Populace is a collective noun referring to the population.
Drysta Jul 30th 2011 12:31PM
I'm well aware of that, thank you though! ;)
You see Populous was a video game from over 20 years ago where the player "adopts the role of a deity and assumes the responsibility to shepherd people by divine intervention."
Get it? Divine Intervention... Paladin... Never mind.
Now my error was that I perhaps *should* have used capitalization on the letter P, but that would have looked uncomfortable and left no easter egg for the real old school nerds. :P

Oh how I loved Populous on my Sega Genesis.
Arturis Jul 31st 2011 3:10PM
For those that love Populous, be sure to try out From Dust on XBox Live Arcade. Its got a very similar vibe, and I'm having a blast moving mountains on behalf of my tiny worshipers.
jfofla Jul 30th 2011 12:08PM
If you just don't bomb all the mobs, and just use it to patrol for the Achievement guys, you can keep bombing quest every day.
Sleutel Jul 30th 2011 12:21PM
You mean the exact strategy that was explicitly recommended by Anne, the author of this Queue?
Tirrimas Jul 30th 2011 12:10PM
Put that armor on my sister's pomeranian...
Err....
And you think Belves are fluffy.

Or maybe epic.

"Theoretically you shouldn't have had that flight path if you hadn't unlocked it, I'm not sure why it would be showing up for you."
That happened to my guild leader last night; he got dropped off at the FP where the Sons of Hodir are--but he hasn't done Storm Peaks yet on that character, so had a nasty surprise (he tends to go through the game very slowly and skip whole zones while leveling). Seems like a bug going around the phased areas of Northrend.
Also, about teleporters and old raids: there were no teleporters in old content, and those instances were huge and windy. So not only could there be some long corpse runs (Mudsprocket didn't always exist in Classic when people raided Onyxia at 60, along with the above Thorium Point example), but many of the raid instances were long runs themselves to get back to the boss you were on!
I barely raided in Classic, for multiple reasons; it just didn't seem that fun, more headachey and annoying. :\ I didn't really start regularly raiding 'til near the end of BC when I found a good group doing 10 man content. But we do go back at times and play around in the old content for fun, RP items, and achievements, and it's amazing how flat inconvenient some of it still is.
Luotian Jul 30th 2011 12:30PM
My Shaman has all the flight paths in Northrend, not just the phased ones, when she should barely have any. I did the same thing with Sons of Hodir, forgetting I hadn't done that on that character. It was...bad. Little orc kind of goes splat.
Literaltruth Jul 30th 2011 12:42PM
There seems to be a bug right now with flightpoints - my Druid suddenly has all the flight points for Kalimdor and Northrend - depsite spending barely any time in either place while leveling. Don't know why or how it happened, but kinda glad it did - seems to be the good kind of bug XD
Fizzyl Jul 30th 2011 1:43PM
My newly fledged undead hunter has all the flight points from the center of Kalimdor and everything in the northern half of the Eastern Kingdoms, including Quel'Danas, despite the fact that he's never been anywhere other than Tirisfal, Silverpine and Hillsbrad. It made last night's search for a couple of rare pets much simpler.
Pocky Jul 30th 2011 6:47PM
I just started a Draenei and immediately had all the FPs in the entire Draenei zone, the Night Elf zone, all Darkshore FPs, all Felwood FPs as well as Moonglade. When I went to Stormwind, I had all the FPs for Elwynn, Westridge, Redridge, Dun Morough and Loch Modan.
I can understand making it easier for new characters, giving them the FPs for all the starter areas and level 10-20 areas, but Felwood and Moonglade was completely puzzling.
Alebeard Jul 30th 2011 6:49PM
I got all the FPs on my druid and my warlock when I faction changed them....even to place I'd never been to...
Dannilion Jul 30th 2011 8:13PM
I'm not so sure it's a bug, but rather a stealthy change.
My level 70 mage went into Northrend to have all the flight points for the two starting areas, plus Dalaran. I've heard reports that other people are getting all the flight points for level appropriate areas when they level, as well.
It could be that the stealthy change is buggy though :P
