The Daily Quest: Go go go
WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
Gearscore may be a thing of the past, but Dungeon Finder queues and the people you find in them remain pretty much the same. The locations have changed, but you're still going to find a Go Go Go Guy every now and again. I don't really queue for random dungeons anymore -- I've got so much going on in my day that I can't usually spare the half hour to 45 minutes of sitting in queue waiting for it to pop.
Today, however, we've got a blog post from someone who doesn't mind the long queue times and actually prefers them, as well as a few other posts from around the blogosphere about time investments.

On my server/battlegroup, dps queue times are way down since the last patch. I really don't know why but they are. Further, if you haven't finished all the molten front dailies, that's a perfect way to spend the time waiting in the queue.
And we do still have gearscore, only now it's the official Blizz one that appears right on your character screen.

What I fear is they are going to use ilvl like they did in Wrath with gearscore.
You need a gearscore of 5.5k to do Naxx!
You need a ilvl of 400 to do Bastion!

Watching this after running a couple instances as a healer last night reminds just how much absolutely nothing has changed. Zone in as DPS spec, tank immediately pulls, blow all my mana healing him. Switch specs, sit down to drink, tank pulls again, dies, rants. Rogue stands in fire, dies, rants about bad heals. Hunter randomly wanders over to the side, pulls adds, feigns, adds dogpile and kill me. I'm a bad healer for dying. Get kicked. Fun times.

"I've got so much going on in my day that I can't usually spare the half hour to 45 minutes of sitting in queue waiting for it to pop."
Solution: Queue for a dungeon while doing something else. For example, Molten Front dailies are a great timesink. You're doing something that you may well have been planning to do in the first place, and all the while your queue is counting down. There's nothing that says you just have to sit in your capital city doing nothing but waiting for the clock to wind down while you queue for a heroic.

See, that doesn't work for me either. I have time to a: do dailies for an hour or b: run a dungeon, which may take about an hour. If I queue while I am doing dailies, that means I'm going to be there for an hour and a half, two hours, possibly more if there's wiping involved. I don't have time to do that. When I say I have limited time for WoW, I mean I have really, really limited time for WoW. My days are crammed! :D

Long queue times are not that bad when doing dailies, now that we have molten dailies to keep you busy till that 40min queue pops.

The worst thing about the random dungeon finder is all the sanctimonious people that come out to scoff at it and declare that they only do guild runs.

No, the worst part of the Random Dungeon Finder is that you often get groups who skip anything even remotely optional in the instance.
It may take 30 seconds to do the Voidwalker boss in ZG for a free maelstrom crystal, but nope! That's 30 seconds they simply cannot part with!

The sad part is that i have done like half of that stuff, lol

"Gearscore may be a thing of the past"
Who are you kidding?
The focus on it might not be so strong, but it remains.
The addon of the same name has changed it's name and, though it is not in my set of addons, it is now more feature-full than ever.
I'm glad that it isn't screamed for, half as often as it used to be - in Dalaran days, but let's not kid ourselves.
It may change names, but Gearscore will always be with us.
