EA proclaims SWTOR preorder breaks records Star Wars: The Old Republic has set the new bar for EA's preorder sales, according to the notes for EA's Q1 Fiscal Earnings Release. The previous bar was set by Battlefield 3, but according to President Frank Gibeau during an investor's conference call, SWTOR far exceed BF3's preorder sales. In fact, according to Gibeau, the sales exceeded the company's expected sales curve, therefore breaking records no one at the game developing company could have expected. |

SWTOR on Origin, couldn't care less. Now if it were on Steam... different story.
thepiratester Aug 2nd 2011 2:35PM
Bought mine from Amazon- could care less about Origin & Steam ^^

I'm honestly curious, what difference would it make?
WoW isn't on Steam. WoW is (essentially) on Battle.net. What is the huge benefit that Steam would add to this? As someone who has a very full steam catalog, even I don't need every game I own to be on the platform.
Al Aug 3rd 2011 2:24AM
Because Steam is run by Angels sent from Himself, and EA are evvvvviiiiilllllll.
Or so the Valve fans will tell you.
Faar Aug 3rd 2011 5:28AM
No Al, because why register for a different download service when I've already registered for Steam? It's redundant, and annoying, a waste of time, effort and ultimately pointless. EA should make its stuff available on the biggest download service around. If they're going to be jerks and keep their stuff only for themselves I'm just gonna choose not to buy anything from them.
It's that simple.
Anyway, why can't the WoW Insider crew annotate the screenshots they use for these articles? I've no idea where the image above comes from, but it looks like an interesting place so I'd really like to find out.

Ah, finally an actual answer. I saw them debating it out on Kotaku after Steam wanted to charge people for EA's DLC and every second post was what I wrote above.
Only with more profanity.

Like Faar said, what if EVERY publisher made their own download service for their products? You'd have to get all of them to play their games, very annoying. What if you had to buy a different console for every publisher, like if EA tomorrow said they were making their own console and you couldn't play EA games on any other console thereafter? Having 50 programs(or consoles) for every publisher would get annoying.
But the pre-order included all pre-orders, not just Origin, so this argument is a bit out of range of the article.

Do you think Aion will go free to play? Any ideas anyone?
Sergel Aug 2nd 2011 3:21PM
As someone who plays it, i don't really see it happening anytime soon. Actually, someone asked this is the forums a couple days ago and there were a few reasons why, but of course I can't the forum now -_-
Anyway, it's a god game worth a try, but what i like is different than most people.
Matthew Aug 2nd 2011 4:30PM
I love the graphics of the game. What do you like Sergel?
I can't justify the fee for it (I play it seldomly) but it so visually beautiful. I like the intense colors.

The mascot article is fail for thinking that Arthas is the mascot for WoW.
I suspect the author is confused over the definition of the word mascot.
Because WoW's mascot is Failoc the Murloc.
Deathknighty Aug 2nd 2011 3:10PM
Never heard of Failoc the Murloc, could you enlighten me about this mascot of WoW that I've never heard about?
DeathPaladin Aug 2nd 2011 3:49PM
He's a giant murloc carrying a flag that says "Oops!"

Artificial Aug 2nd 2011 9:32PM
I dunno about Failoc in particular, but you'd have to live in a pretty deep hole under a rock not to have gathered by now that murlocs have been the WoW mascots for many years. The particular murloc changes from time to time (e.g. Grunty, Deathy, etc.) but there's always some murloc or other filling the role. Arguably it's all the same primal WoW murloc, just undergoing costume changes from time to time. ;)
leo81202 Aug 2nd 2011 3:35PM
If anything, Hogger would be the mascot for WoW
Harvoc Aug 2nd 2011 4:01PM
Leeroy Jenkins for presi... I mean mascot!
Al Aug 2nd 2011 4:07PM
Surely Abesik Kampfire is the mascot, right? That's why he let Punchy McMoron be Warchief.
(And "Don't call me Shirley" in 3.. 2.. 1..)
soup of the day Aug 2nd 2011 6:19PM
I'm serious.
... and don't call me shirley!
DeathPaladin Aug 2nd 2011 5:01PM
I just want to let you both know, good luck, we're all counting on you.
fayth Aug 3rd 2011 10:29AM
Honestly, I can see why people say Arthas is the mascot for WoW, but in all reality, when I think of the game, the only character I can see as being it's mascot is Thrall.
