Cenarion Hatchling raises over $1.9 million for Japan Earthquake Relief

The Cenarion Hatchling is still up on the Blizzard store, so if you missed your chance to purchase the little guy for charity, you'll still be able to pick him up, as he is a permanent part of the store from here on out. Feel good about this one -- that's a lot of money going to people in need.

Sorry for the double post...

so you thought youd make it a triple?

I already got mine but was wondering, are proceeds still going to relief for Japan or has the drive ended?
Dril Aug 3rd 2011 6:46PM
America (and a multitude of other countries, mostly the G8 ones) have more than enough resources to help their own people.
The simple fact is: it's cheaper and easier to avoid the problem and sweep it under a rug, so to speak, rather than deal with it.
While Japan isn't a fantastic example of a country that has little enough as is, suffice to say there are countries (and some areas of Japan, now) where basic necessities are the name of the game, not "buy poor Americans/Brits/Germans/French a new fridge."

Of course, not all WoW players are from the US :)
Personally I'm just glad I was able to donate a little bit to the relief efforts (and get a pet in return), regardless of it being through the American Red Cross and me being an Asian.

I strongly disagree with this take. As a country, we do help out our own as well as helping out others. We have numerous programs to help out the homeless, and Federal programs set up to help out any state in the case of a disaster (e.g. FEMA). Although sometimes it may seem like certain areas are left out and abandoned, we do come together either as a country or community to help those that are in need.
As for the other countries...I'd be very surprised if they looked at those in need and said "Oh well, America's problem". Other countries have foreign aid programs as well. I don't see why that means we should stop ours.

I've had mine out since I bought it the day they went on sale. I also got one for a good WoW friend who was having a crappy few weeks.

Step one: Don't assume that everyone who plays WoW or reads this blog is an American.
Step two: Don't assume that those players don't *already* do their bit to improve the societies in which they live.
I'm from Christchurch, New Zealand - *also* the site of a devastating earthquake - and I volunteer three days a week with the Salvation Army.
If your point is "Blizzard should sell minipets to help Midwest tornado victims/New Orleans flood refugees/Those dispossessed by the farcial bickering of American politicians" - I rather think the Japanese earthquake and tsunami is *worse than those*.

I love it, I bought it. First and hopefully only charity pet I buy from the store (because you know, dont want disasters happen and all).
However this got me thinking that well you know.. sparkle ponies and lions sell million copies and this "only" 190k?
Kinda feels annoying when I think about it - but maybe its just me and hate towards those mounts (I kinda like store pets).
But hey, all the help is good!

If by "our own", you mean the human race, that's exactly what happened, yay! That's the first thing that needs to change, the "us and them" way of looking at humanity.
However, as others pointed out, other countries do help out the US in the face of disasters. See this for an example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina
So, other countries have stepped up already.
Weistber Aug 3rd 2011 9:57PM
You do realise that they did a lot more in the Asian region than kill Americans right ?
Where is our relief ? /sacarsm
There are plenty of people in Japan without homes or jobs right now, they hardly need your insult to injury. If the US can receive foreign aid for Hurricane Katrina, I don't see why Japan can't.
Anosvek Aug 3rd 2011 9:57PM
the fact that all that aid was given and the city is still the way it is...boggles the mind. I have to wonder where all that money went? Surely using that money to help rebuild peoples lives there wouldnt be a bad thing

No words can describe how immense the measure of stupid you've just managed to conjure up from your statement, so I won't bother trying.
Maxwell Aug 3rd 2011 10:50PM
You are probably the biggest IDIOT I have ever seen here. Seriously, you make me sick. The war was a long time ago, all those people are long gone now. No one living in Japan right now did anything to us. Get over your bigotry you pathetic braindead buffoon.
TaurenDruid Aug 3rd 2011 11:07PM
I can't believe some of the dumb things some people say when they are hidden safely behind their computer screens. I hope you're just a troll, because if you truly believe that garbage you just spouted then you must be a pretty miserable excuse for a human being.
The war has been over for a very long time, and blaming a whole country of people for something their previous government did almost a century ago is absurd. To start spouting about treason is beyond ridiculous and just makes you look stupid and racist. What about what this country once did to the native Americans, are you also mad about that or what about some of the horrific things our European ancestors did back in the middle ages? Every country has done something bad at one time so hey, let's just hate everyone and be done with it.
Wait, I have an even better idea. Let's get over it and not dwell on past events that had nothing to do with any living person today. Let's try to stop acting like patriotic douches and start acting like human beings. The people of Japan don't deserve your ignorant bile, and as an American myself I'm deeply ashamed of that trash you just posted.

Pearl Harbor? Really? Not to denigrate the loss of the men and women who fell in that attack, but, uh, what about the 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki that died when the USA bombed them?
Pearl harbor was OVER SIXTY FIVE years ago. Most of the people suffering from the earthquake today weren't even BORN yet. And if you're into the 'sins of the father' idea, you better prepare to pay out the nose for the slaughter of native Americans, destruction of their homes and territories, enslavement, murder and oppression of blacks, oppression of women, etc etc etc.. Heck we can go right back to the crusades if you want to play that game.
