The Daily Quest: Cha-ching!

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
So, did you hear the latest about Diablo 3? Apparently, Blizzard's going to allow players to purchase items on the auction house for real-life currency. I am eagerly awaiting the day when my Diablo-obsessed friend puts his first collection of items up on the auction house and waits for the cash to roll in. Mostly to see the look on his face when he realizes everyone else playing the game is doing the exact same thing and remembers the basic rules of supply and demand.
Of course, the blogosphere is pretty chatty about this topic, so let's take a look at some posts!
Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites.

$AH will be a big hit in Diablo, and then it certainly should come to WOW.
Last Year I sold my Baby Murloc Code from the First Blizzcon for $2000, so I already appreciate how much money WOW can make for you!
BRING $AH TO WOW!

One element of this I hadn't picked up on until I read it in a Kotaku article was that the Diablo 3 acquired money was linked to the battle.net account, and therefore could be used to purchase sparkle ponies or pets and possibly even game time from the WoW store.
I think the ultimate impact of this will be an increase in gold buying. Blizzard has basically forfeited any moral high ground on that issue. Now the only remaining barriers are "how do I not get caught" and "how do I not get my account hacked"
The closer this is to touching on WoW-related activities, the less I like it

I just wish Blizz would make the items in the Blizz store gold sinks...
Make it a "bad deal" by gold selling terms to where no one would ever purposefully spend real money on a gold farmer's site and turn around and buy the pets and mounts from the store.
The collection of gold (with a bit of time and effort) is too easy in WoW, and there's not anything to spend it on. The high pop servers at least have a pretty steady posting of TCG mounts, but sadly my medium server rarely sees these... Oddly, I never see TCG pets posted...
Anyway, I think it'd be awesome for Blizz to sell the $10 pets for 20 or 30k gold and mounts for 50 or 75k gold...
Well.... I know that's likely never going to happen. So I sort of hope they DO bring the real money AH to WoW. If I read the D3 article correctly, those players can sell gold on the money AH! That would be a dream come true for me in WoW... I'd be thrilled if I could sell 10k gold for 5-10 bucks. I could do that all day long and turn around and buy all the pets/mounts from the Blizz store with ease.

Actually there is one thing that Blizz could do to neuter all of my concerns about this. When creating a character allow us to check a box to play only in no real money AH servers/ games.
That way people inclined to buy stuff have their wish, Blizz gets to take their cut from those people (which is why they came up with the idea in the first place) and players not inclined to spend real currency get to play with like minded people and with an unspoilt economy. Now wouldn't that be great?

Sounds like a great idea and a solution for anyone who doesn't want to play the game with an economy based on real dollars.

I read the blog post from Stabbed up. He talks about farming for profit. How does the spawn rate for herbs and ore work? Is it based on the number of people in the zone at the time picking items? Will more people farming cause more spawn points or a faster rate? How will Blizzard ensure that there is enough to 'go around' for the folks who want to level a profession or just craft for game purposes as opposed to farming for profit?

New post up at Corath's Blog, a Blog Azeroth Shared Topic about how you identify your character, or how they identify themselves. Very good topic, I think.
