Addon Spotlight: Adding on to the Blizzard Raid Frames

I'm not so much interested in adding on to Blizzard's raid frame as subtrcting from it. Specifically, making that crazy thing go away. Is there an addon or some way in the options that I've missed of getting rid of the raid frames entirely? I know you can hide them, but they never stay hidden for me. I always have to re-hide everytime I join a raid group or reload my ui. Plus, hiding doesn't get rid of that ugly tab on the side of your screen.
