The relation of Deepholm physically to Azeroth and the threat of Deepholm "crashing into" Azeroth has always confused me, especially since, from our point of view, you enter Deepholm by flying into the middle of Azeroth.

You wouldn't be the only person who has difficulty wrapping their head around the idea that space isn't strictly three dimensional.Having taken plenty of physics courses in my time which touched on relativity, the whole concept is mind-warping... but it has applications to this. The hole in the center of the maelstrom where Thrall has been for most of Cataclysm is the spot where Deathwing ripped his way out of Deepholm by shattering the World Pillar.Since then, Deepholm has been trying to rip the rest of the way back into Azeroth. And if the shaman of the Earthen Ring weren't doing everything in their power to hold it back... well...Think of it sort of like a reverse black hole. Yipe!

Just think of it like the World Pillar is the core of the earth, and if it was destroyed then the whole world would cave in.
