I'm an old player from 2005 who's jumped back into this game because of the f2p feature. I decided to pick a Tauren Shaman (probably because I remembered the days when they were incredibly OP in vanilla PVP). I tried leveling as an elemental, figuring that I'd be less gear dependent than enhancement and I could focus on grinding xp rather than xp and loot.

But I read another article or two on this site recommending enhancement for leveling, so I switched to that and I think it's the better choice. Fights go a lot faster, there is also zero downtime waiting for mana regen, and very little concern about casting ranges and such. I'm able to kill 5-6 trash mobs at once, even if they're a level or two above me, and solo small group quests. I'm sure there is a role for elemental in this game, but I haven't found it in the lower levels.

Enhancement has been fun enough to bother leveling up to 66. Gonna try and get to 85 (never had a chance to get max level back in 2005), but man progression really slows once you get to BC content.
