The Queue: My "Glimpses" prediction

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior void corespondent, will be your host today.
The above screenshot was released yesterday as a teaser to upcoming content. Be it patch 4.3 or the next expansion, we don't know. My bet would be for patch 4.3. What do the NPCs do? Here are my thoughts:
Transmogrifier Transmogrification is the processes of changing one thing into another. My guess is that it's going to switch around enchanting materials, change the sex of the warlock pet (something we've heard about), or dye your armor (unlikely to be patch content, I think).
Void storage This is the most interesting NPC. It wouldn't be out of the question for WoW to get an account-wide bank. That would take care of things like cross-server heirloom distribution. The other possibility for this is as a gear closet to store your tabards (which we've been hearing about forever) and your old sets of gear.
Fun speculation, but until someone leaks the info or Blizzard comes out and outright tells us, we don't know.
Lord Gavin asked:
I'm ready for a WoW sequel not expansion. It's kinda daunting to see the level cap at 100. I know a few people who have thought about picking up the game and see that the top level is 85 and decide it's too much for them.
That's a good point about people picking up the game, seeing that it's level 85 until they reach the cap, and then walking away. That is something Blizzard is going to have to deal with.
But Blizzard's not going to do a sequel. One of the greatest mistakes ever made in (the short) MMO history thus far was the splintering of EverQuest's fan base. When EQ2 came out, people left in droves for it; but when they didn't like it as much, many returned to EQ1. What you had was a splintered fan base, half playing EQ1 and half playing EQ2. Sony really screwed up. If it had played the cards differently, it's likely the MMO landscape would be different today. EQ2 was and in many respects is a great game -- except for one crucial factor: It doesn't have the massive fanbase WoW does.
I've had this conversation with a Blizzard person before, and Blizzard is not at all interested in splitting up the players in WoW. Blizzard will make a new game (Titan) instead.
Shinyaaah asked:
Are there any plans to update the guide for "The Insane"?
That's a good idea. I'll put it on my list of things to get updated, but it probably won't happen for a while. So few people actually try it that it's a low priority for us to have a guide for it, but it'll get updated soon.
Svylva asked:
Question: Why do the non-combat pets stay summoned upon relogging for some of my toons but not for others?
I'm guessing that you're talking about the haunted memento, which will always show if you've got it in your inventory. Noncombat pets shouldn't stay out once you've logged. If others are staying out, it's a bug.
Noselacri asked:
I noticed I couldn't use a potion in TB. I asked a GM, thinking I broke something. The GM response was that there was a dev change to treat TB as a Rated BG in regards to tinker/pot/brez restrictions, except without the rewards for doing rateds.
Uh...any speculation as to why?
I'm having connection problems with WoW at the moment so I can't verify this, but if this is true, then I'd assume it has something to do with leveling the playing field. An extra flask or potion or two can really make a difference between two equally well-geared and well-skilled players. Blizzard is all about that balance, and it'll enforce that as much as it can. Don't surprise me too much.
Arrohon asked:
Is shaman pronounced shay-man or sham-on?
I'm terrible with words ... which is a bad thing to be in my position. Instead, I'll just link you the dictionary reference for it, that has some audio you can play. It's: sha-mahn.
Pattycrackers asked:
How many gnomes could a green orc punt, if a green orc could punt gnomes?
37, in a row.

Regarding tabard storage... let's not reinvent the wheel. Look at the current UI. Titles are in a neat spot in our character pane. As are gear sets. Tabards can go here, without a problem.
Ah, but something like Reforging requires an NPC. This -could- be another UI pane, but it isn't. That is where your Transmogrifier and Void Storage folks come in. I think they're definitely tied to a game function that we'll use occasionally, but not very often and certainly not something we can swap in the field. Tabards we'll want to swap in the field. Mid-dungeon you might hit Exalted with Thunder Bluff, and can easily swap to Earthen Ring.
And warlock pets could be handled by simply giving the warlock two spells corresponding to the male and female demons. He can choose which one to put on his hotbars, macro or keybind from there.

Q for the Q: When Brann Bronzebeard was down in Silithus (at least I remember him as being there) why didn't he just look over the cliff behind his camp and see Throne of the Four Winds peeking up above it? Or even the enormous Obelisk towering over Tanaris and Un'Goro? If he's so interested in Titan history he would've been there alot sooner than I imagine.
PS I know Throne isn't made by the Titans.
AudreyR Aug 12th 2011 4:52PM
I'm certain his height has a lot to do with it. I mean lorewise, not even see over those cliffs on tippy-hoof.
AudreyR Aug 12th 2011 4:52PM
I meant tauren.

Back in those days, Uldum was being hidden from view by Titan technology. Sure, it's kind of a stupid answer, but it's the one Blizzard gave.
Skarn Aug 12th 2011 6:13PM
Cutaia has revealed the cloaking device!
Also, the Throne of the Four Winds wasn't there. It was in the elemental plane of air and firmly separated from Azeroth. When Deathwing erupted from Deepholm, he broke the barriers between the elemental planes and Azeroth, so they can leak through now. That's why fire elementals can get into Hyjal so easily and why there's a swirly vortex at the bottom of Vashj'ir.

Brann :"Turns out the cave behind the doors was empty. Uldum was really over that ridge, we just couldn't see it."
Character: "So why did Bliz.. the Titan hologram, send us to check out the door? It was pretty clearly the cave"
Brann: "Maybe they were trolling us?"
Bli.. Titan Construct: "... We'll give you Camel mounts if you forget about the cave. We sure did."
Character: "Another thing that doesn't make sense.."
Blitan Construct: "Hey - Ghostcrawler wants to know what spec you are. Nothing to worry about.."
Character: ".... I.... Frost.. Mage?"
Construct: "Nice try, but I can see your healing shield."

eas someone who back with 2 60s last september and now has 10 85s i can tell you about new players or those returning being daunted by a level 85 ceiling. ive recruited 3 totally new players since ive been back. this means level 80 in a few days play time. also the people who have only went 80-85 since cata might not realize thay blizzard did an excellent job balancing content throughout levels. the new quests as well as adjusting some level reqs on a few classic dungeons. when i started this game, all i and others cared about was level 60, but now it seems theres alot more fun than there was on the way to level cap. i think our desire to be max level came from earlier experiences for us when that was where all the content was, i dont think new players are playing that game we started out with. if you want a sequel because of how you think new players will feel about a high level cap, recruit one and see what they think.

Question for the QUE
What spec is Thrall?
I mean, he use the doomhammer a lot to deal with his enemies which could in fact suggest that hes enhancement. Although he doesn't duel wield. However at the same time he heals himself a bunch such as wounds and what not so he could also be resto. I haven't seen much of his ele side tho.
VioletArrows Aug 12th 2011 6:07PM
At this point, I think that spec trees are only for us mere mortals. Once you reach Worldbinder, you can spec into whatever you like, skip useless talents, and start pulling whatever skills you feel like out of your orc-purse. :p (Just what spell is 'keep two dimensions from crashing into each other'?)

Q4theQ: What happened to the elemental stones in Silithus, I been trying to farm rep and have a bag full of Cultist sets without the ability to click on any of the stones. Is Silithus THAT boring that the elementals left?
AudreyR Aug 12th 2011 7:41PM
Yes.

I really don't think the amount of levels would be a reason for a necessity to split up WoW. I think it would be the COST. I mean, it costs a fortune if someone wants to buy all the expansions to start off, and that price will only go up as time goes on. Either Blizz needs to stop requiring all of the expansion to play (like, say, you only have to buy Cata to play the full game), or they need make a WoW 2 so it's easier for someone new to get into it.
Marius W. Aug 12th 2011 5:54PM
Do all the writers currently play WoW? Seems some don't play currently as they are out of date on some of the things they say are current.
Michael C Aug 12th 2011 6:10PM
I'm more curious about whether the Ethereals will be a playable race and i'm praying the answer is yes, If so then Blizzard will be back in my good graces lol

Q for the queue:
i have a friend who is a very literate fan of the tolkien-iverse, yet completely new to warcraft. so i was wondering, amongst the dozens of novels, comics, and short stories, where such a person should begin? ( even star wars started in the middle of the story)
eresin Aug 13th 2011 1:35PM
With all the new talk of expansions, I'm sure we can expect either a new race or class, but do you think we will get extra Character Slots?
There are 10 slots and right now 10 classes, if they add anymore classes then those who have one of each will be a bit stuck.
