The Daily Quest: Dark Lady watch over you
WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
My first Horde character was a Forsaken -- a priest, chosen specifically because I wanted to play an overpowered, easy class, and Forsaken shadow priests were the flavor of the month. But I was utterly enchanted by my little undead priest, her golden glowing eyes peering around when idle, the way she'd swing a staff over her head like she was smacking a rug with a broom, and how she was all knees when she jumped. I still play her, although she has yet to make the trek to 85. But the Forsaken as a whole confuse me. Should I feel bad for these former living residents of Lordaeron, cursed to live on after death and unable to reconnect with their living friends and family? Or should I feel uneasy and a little ill due to Sylvanas' machinations and obvious plotting to use the plague against the living? I don't know.
I do know that we've got two really interesting posts regarding the Forsaken today, as well as a suggestion for a new dungeon that I can really get behind.
Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites.

- Cynwise's Field Notes takes an in-depth look at the Forsaken leveling experience from vanilla to Cataclysm.
- Priest With A Cause tells us about her experiences with Forsaken leveling and how Sylvanas surprised her.
- Orcish Army Knife has an excellent suggestion for a new dungeon in an area that is so, so overdue for a complete rehaul: Stromgarde.

My first character was a forsaken priest. He is still my main.

Would have been better without that "scretch scretch scretch" beat going on.

"Parody: A literary or artistic work that imitates the characteristic style of an author or a work for comic effect or ridicule"
How does this poke fun at the original song it has stolen the melody from? Once again, this is not a parody, it has simply taken someone else's work at replaced the lyrics with WoW related ones. Clever, yes. Parody, no.

I can't quantify why but this comment raises my hackles for some reason. I feel the only response I can politely muster is 'oh my god shut up.'

A good attempt, but your argument assumes there is only one concrete definition of "parody". However, there are other definitions of parody. For example:
"Parody: a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing."
Using this definition, we can see that a parody is an "imitation".
Also worth noting that it is specifically labeled a [WoW Parody]; standard English construction would assume that "WoW" is modifying "Parody". (The same way "humorless" would modify "bastard".) So we have an imitation with alternate lyrics, apparently in the WoW theme or genre.

My first was a Forsaken as well and I think you should feel both Anne! I do!

I made a Forsaken priest so I could experience all of the leveling content before Cataclysm because I was curious about the storyline. But I still haven't managed to level through the newly redone areas yet. I need to role a new character at some point and do that.

The Stromgarde dungeon idea is a really good one, I'd love to see it put into practice.
Strawder Aug 15th 2011 10:09PM
That Stromgarde idea is completely awesome. And Calia Menethil! Yes, yes! This should all so happen!
Krz Aug 16th 2011 6:56AM
The Calia Menethil thing really sealed the deal with that one for me. Stromgarde as presented by Orcish Army Knife would be a great instance.

Something I've noticed while reading the arguments from those who dislike the Forsaken, new and old, is that the arguments against the Forsaken seem to be very visceral and emotional. The arguments seem to stem from a sense of disgust with the very nature of the Forsaken and proceed from there. The hatred of the anti-Forsaken crowd largely seems a product of their inability to identify with, and therefore empathize with, something as foreign and alien as the Forsaken. That disconnect makes trying to debate the merits of the Forsaken position with many of their detractors difficult, if not impossible.
Corath Aug 16th 2011 11:57PM
I've tried many Forsaken characters, and I was never able to stick with them. I don't think it has anything to do with the lore, I just don't like how they look or their animations.
Latest post up on Corath's Blog (http://corath.wordpress.com) is all about a "Change in Scenery". I decided to roll a new DK tank on a brand new server, and decided to try stuff from scratch. So far, success!

Enjoy!
