I hit 85 on my death knight just this past Friday, so this subject is near and dear to my heart.I bought two Gurubashi Punishers and the Band of the Gurubashi Berserker. The ZG BOEs are only a few hundred gold, so this is a very economical option. Similarly, JP boots are cheap as well - tanks will want the 365s from Molten Front, but DPS DKs can and should pick up a nice pair of 359 shoes. This, along with the necklace and cape that are basically free upon hitting 85 (Thanks, Blizz!) will put you nicely on the way to being heroic-ready, especially if you've been running dungeons. Don't worry about still having a few blues or greens - I ran the T11 instances over the weekend and managed to top 3 the meter on most fights, even finishing first once, despite having two greens. The important things are that your equipped ilvl is high enough (please don't wear pvp gear or gear of the wrong spec to cheat the system, you're only hurting yourself), your spec and glyphs are correct (check EJ), and that your stuff is properly gemmed and enchanted (get green gems and cheap enchants for the crappy gear, but at least put something there - every little bit helps).Cheap BOEs are a fresh 85's best friend. If you have extra gold lying around, like I did, you can get the Valor bracers or a Darkmoon card, but the weapon is the most important slot to a melee dps. Gurubashi Punishers make a great on-ramp.
