I thought the threat change wasn't until 4.3?!
Christmas has come early!
Zally Aug 16th 2011 10:24PM
The threat changes are in the hotfix, the change to vengeance will be in the next patch (I'm assuming that will be 4.3)
Nathanyel Aug 17th 2011 3:30AM
The Vengeance change mentioned here is not the one mentioned in the watercooler, it's actually a nerf (and a really hard one for DKs) since it _prevents_ the ramping up of Vengeance.
Udderpowered Aug 17th 2011 9:04AM
Does this meant disc priests are going to be the bane of tanks then?
DancePuppets Aug 17th 2011 10:23AM
Appears not, as the vengeance stacks will be applied once the shield breaks, so no vengeance will be lost when the damage is absorbed (I think).
Konota Aug 16th 2011 10:15PM
Well, that's what I get for doing the boss on reset day...
Andrew Aug 16th 2011 10:55PM
Same here, did Occ on 25 man, had 1 PvE and 5 PvP pieces drop. >.
Byeble Aug 16th 2011 11:19PM
... stupid me, doing Occu'thar
SR Aug 17th 2011 1:51AM
We actually saw a single piece of PVE drop today.
That's still more than what I usually see across 5 of my toons.
Draelan Aug 17th 2011 12:05PM
I already bought my tier gloves and pants because I figured, since they didn't learn from Argaloth that this is stupid, that they were going to continue this big middle finger to those of us who raid but don't PvP! FUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Kylenne Aug 16th 2011 10:30PM
Normally I'm really not one to holler for nerfs, but I think my raid's going to be sending Valentine's cards to whomever decided to fix Lord RNG.
Koalabear Aug 17th 2011 1:01AM
That fight is a joke now. We did him tonight and couldn't believe how much he was nerfed.
Kylenne Aug 17th 2011 2:43AM
I would think the armor break changes alone would have made it way easier. I can't tell you how many times I've wiped when he was down to like 10% or whatever and then people ended up getting trapped by lava lines, etc.
I'm still not sure Beth and Shannox warranted nerfing though. Don't really know what was on their minds with that.
mazca13 Aug 17th 2011 8:02AM
@Kylenne - I was thinking the same. Rhyolith did warrant some changes to make him a little less variable and generally chaotic. But Shannox and Beth'tilac are both, deep down, basically gear check bosses that by their nature get a lot easier as people gear up through valor points. I'd probably have waited a little longer before actually nerfing them, but possibly Blizzard have some stats about general success in raids that warrant making the initial bosses slightly easier on normal.
Jordan Aug 18th 2011 11:53PM
yeah, rye bread on normal is by far and away easier - but I'll be honest from the start I think this fight needed to be toned down for normal difficulty. It was still hard, but nothing like the 30 wipes my group had in the past =/
just happy to have downed him last night! Hopefully tomorrow we can get to staghelm ^___^

All I can say is that the upcoming (and already implemented) changes to threat and tank abilities have me looking forward to giving tanking another try. Losing aggro was always one of the most frustrating things about tanking, even at low level, and it made the role too stressful for me. This definitely makes me want to give it another shot.
Arrohon Aug 16th 2011 11:20PM
I wonder if this might actually help the tank shortage... Tanking is a stressful thankless job while dps is far less stressful, has cooler spell effects, and generally more fun (who doesn't like seeing all the big numbers they're doing?). Now that tanking is a bit less stressful, it might become more popular. If so it probably won't be all that noticeable sadly.
MusedMoose Aug 16th 2011 11:38PM
@ Arrohon -
That's my hope. I'm not the only one who's said they'll be giving tanking another try thanks to these changes, so if Blizzard truly manages to make it more fun and reduce the stress, we should see an increase in tanks. I doubt it'll get to the point where no one has a queue longer than 2 minutes or something, but hopefully things will get better.
Sharlatan Aug 17th 2011 7:23AM
Myself and all other tanks in my guild are apalled by these changes. We hate them and are seriously considering changing to another role if they all go live.
tanking is too easy as it is, we want a challenge, its not exactly like threat is an issue anyway. Its only an issue in 5mans where the dps outgear the tank, and then the dps just have to watch aggro for 30secs or so on a boss pull..
I am appalled by the way GC is taking wow, he is and always has been a pillock with his head up his arse.
Vinyl Aug 17th 2011 11:18AM
Sharlatan, tanking is too easy for /you/, not the people who'll maybe be willing to give it a try now that they have to worry less about overzealous dps repeatedly pulling off them. If it's too easy, these changes won't matter to you anyway; you've clearly got things under control.
