Making this something that's free for all players was a good choice, but I think it's also a matter of timing. What else is supposed to be in this theoretical premium package? Is it really "if you pay for all the other Armory bonus elements you get cross-realm RealID parties" or are there other services in a DIFFERENT premium package that they haven't announced yet? There's enough of a difference between the set of people who need to stay connected to their guild and/or the AH from their remote devices, and the people who want to be able to play with their RealID friends. When you consider that a lot of people would end up buying the service for functionality they aren't going to use (either because they don't need the connectivity or don't have a smartphone) then it feels kinda jerky to ask them to do it. It ALSO feels jerky to demo this product and then say "it's premium content now, pay up!" and not have ANY OTHER SERVICES attached. Would it even be worth it Blizzard if it were a dollar more a month? They mend some fences and garner some goodwill from the community if they add value to the game without putting a pricetag on it.
