I don't find the pygmies racist, but I can understand why one might think so if one thought they were based on a race. If you read the Arabian nights, many of the illustrated versions (the original was NOT made for kids!) have that kind of art as an illustration. When I saw them to me it was 'wow they borrowed art from Arabian mythology with efreet and hideous pygmies' very pretty. (On the other hand the Arabian nights is actually pretty racist in itself, with Black Ugly Eunuchs and Jews that had bad epithets. However, the society was also racist and so it remains a portrait of its time. It's incredibly sexist and I seriously stopped reading it for a while because of the stories where the women were being beaten by men as punishment. )
