Unfortunately, if that was possible, along with those heirlooms you would either be able to send character-bound items across characters/servers or you wouldn't be able to store them at all.

I'm thinking that if they ever do implement battle.net account wide sharing, it would still be through their mail system.

Even same-server would be nice. A common place to store them so you don't have to go find them on whatever toon they were on last when you start up a new character

My bank toon has a bank-bag JUST for storing heirlooms -- one character finishes with them, back they go to the banker for next use. That way I always know where they are -- and if for some reason they're NOT where they should be, Altoholic's got my back.
