WoW Moviewatch: Hard Like Heroic
It's been ages since we've taken another look a Hard Like Heroic by Nyhm. This video is about four years old but still retains its place as an iconic parody video. For better or for worse, Nyhm was the original belf rapper, even if folks don't credit him for starting the trend.
Hard Like Heroic has always been my favorite Nyhm parody. The lyrics were fast and clever, without being cruel or overtly vulgar. For all that the song is just one big innuendo, the song feels clever and self-deprecating instead of just funky. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I've always been a fan of Nyhm's stuff. But, my favorite is 'Pretty Fly (For a Draenei)'.

I miss those days of wow.

Yeah, he's good. He's got a show now that he uploads to his youtube channel, I'm not sure of the schedule if there is one, I just found them (it had been a while since I checked youtube in general) and listed to all 5 eps. Funny stuff.

Yuck. I knew there was a reason why Oxhorn, wowcrendor and others dislike BE rap. I'm glad to follow their lead.

^ this. A thousand times, this.
All hail Wowcrendor, who led us away from Belf rap and showed a better way to make Wow-related videos.
This revisit of Nyhm wasn't a pleasant dip into nostalgia. This was like being shown your elementary school photos, complete with little 'fro, big plastic glasses, butterfly-collar and bellbottom jeans.
Try harder, WoW Insider.

To be fair he did it before "everyone else".
Back in BC there was hardly all this "belf rap" where people pwn noobs, get achievements, kill streak, not get into pugs and all that. Well maybe at late bc but come on now this was at 2007.

Yeah I'm no great fan of Nym. Yeah he can be funny but I kind of blame him for Belf rap. He's more skillful than the myriad of followers but his humor tends to be just like this. Meh. Not my style. Yeah, we get it, you're talking about sex. Good for you, you love yourself. /eyeroll.
I can't fault his stuff for an skill/talent reasons. It's just not my cup of tea. XD

Well Thats what the song he's parodying is about, it'd be weird if it wasn't that way
Malachi Aug 18th 2011 4:26PM
He pretty much kept the same subject as the original song...
Bill Aug 18th 2011 5:33PM
Considering the original song was about sex it's only appropriate that his parody be the same. Also, he wasn't a blood elf rapper at this time, blood elf rap wasn't a genre, Nyhm was original, moreover, he was modest. Every Blood Elf rapper does songs on how good they are in PvP (most famously Gigi, who was actually a horrible player), but Nyhm has only touched that subject once. The majority of his subjects are spread out and funny.
Dreyja Aug 18th 2011 9:32PM
Oh hey, I was saying that he was pretty much better than the rest. I do think he helped give rise to the genre - that's what I meant. /shrug To each their own. And yeah, the org. song sucks too. XD
I've seen most of his stuff and I'm not sure "humble" is the word I would use. ;-p Do you remember his channel wallpaper? LOL
Andrew Aug 18th 2011 11:21PM
Not sure why this is downgraded since Dreyja was just expressing an opinion, and a valid one, at that.
Nyhm's poseur attitude wore very thin, very quickly. And the voicework was never there.

I actually have the book he wrote in real life for his child in the attitude of Shel Silverstein (Upside Downside Up). I always, personally, liked his videos and found them amusing, and the book itself is just a really well done collection of silly poetry that, like Shel Silverstein, sometimes becomes downright profound. An example is just the short poem below, which is from the book:
I've never seen a shooting star,
but I've seen an alien.
I've seen alot of clones,
But I ain't never seen a twin.
I've never felt an earthquake,
but I've felt a giant pass.
And that's what I wrote down
on my report for science class.
It's silly, but I like the play on fantasy in it too and how we view things. Shel Silverstein did similar things in his poetry when he was alive. So, while I agree with some people's complaints about his vocal skills, I've always felt they were passable enough that his lyrics and wit came through anyway. Other Belf rappers....not so much. Of course, Oxhorn and Wowcrendor are in categories all by themselves too. :)

Summergale completely ruins this song. It would be so much better with GIGI
Teresa Aug 18th 2011 9:47PM
A belf rap with summergale and gigi? the possibilities are horrifying.
