Breakfast Topic: What was your first addon?

He educated me about the mod a bit before the end of our dungeon run, and I promptly ran out and downloaded the thing, unzipped it into my interface/addons folder, and logged in to see what all the fuss was about. Lo and behold, it added a set of small buttons to my interface that, when clicked, cast Remove Lesser Curse on one of my poor, curse-riddled allies. (Remember when Remove Lesser Curse was called that? I always wondered where all the greater curses were.) I was blown away. This was infinitely easier than the clunky default interface! I immediately logged out, started perusing addon sites for other useful mods, and never looked back. Now my interface has evolved so far beyond the default that it's probably only one or two modifications away from identifying mankind as a threat and ending us all in a fiery hellstorm.
What was your first addon, and what prompted you to download it? Or are you one of the spartan warriors who insist on playing mod-free, as the good lord intended?

Anyone who doesn't answer "Cosmos" to this question:
Door's that-a-way.

It was either Cosmos or CT Mod. Pretty sure it was Cosmos, though.

No doubt that it was cosmos. I run a lot of "utility" addons but none of the big interface ones (though I have downloaded Quartz for the first time a few days ago if that counts). At anytime looking at my UI you'll see Titan Panel, recount, omen (when in a party), Daily To-Do's (which I'll probably get rid of for lack of use), healbot (only on if I'm in healing spec), Pallypower (small interface that lets me know if I have my buffs on so I kept it), Ret FCFS, Tauntmaster, Time to Die, and the WoW Pro addon. I use the Addon Control Panel addon to manage these since I don't need most of these on all characters at all times. I'm a pretty old-school type of player as I'm a clicker and use the original raid frames and action bars. I don't use any macros except for random mount and my only keybind is for that macro (other than default keybinds).

Jeez, I'd completely forgotten about Cosmos. Shame on me. Must have been my first though, it was pretty much a household name back then. If you didn't have Cosmos, you didn't have any addons. End of, really.

Thread over.
You mean I can have multiple action bars?!

I did have Cosmos, but I think it was my second addon. I'm pretty sure my first was X-Perl. I had seen the nifty 3d portraits on a friends UI and had to find out how he did it. Now I run more addons than can be healthy. LOL

Holy crap, I had forgotten Cosmos! Yeah, that was my first addon... Now I am obsessed with the damn things. There isn't a single piece of my interface untouched by modifications. Whether it's Bartender, SexyMap, XPerl, or Prat, I have every sort of addon haha...

Cosmos of course. Thankfully I only needed two bars as a rogue; I can't imagine how other classes in early vanilla made do
Necromann Aug 20th 2011 8:02AM
DBM because my brother said I would need it latter.

Same. I got Recount when I was around... I think right before I went in to Burning Crusade.
Since then, I've been frequenting the AH to try to best my competition in dungeons. Prolly cost me thousands of gold after 7 toons that made it through Outland, but hey. The e-peen factor was worth it... I think.... Not really...

Necrosis, first char was a warlock. :)

Healbot. I was a shadowpriest in BC. But I dabbled in healing every now and again. Very badly But then A friend got me to try this crazy "addon" thing. And then I was healing machine. Just too hard to switch targets fast enough without it imho.
zubbiefish Aug 20th 2011 8:56AM
This story is quite similar to mine. HealBot was my first too. It was soon followed by a parade of addons that never quite stops. I'll try almost any of them once, including the total UI replacements out there. Those UI replacements never stick though.
These days it's a full on custom job with a new tweak, addition, or removal every week or so. I love tinkering with my UI.

The friend that got me into WoW pretty much demanded I install DBM. The first one I picked myself was probably Grid or OneBag.

KLH Threat meter

Wow, a Breakfast Topic from Archmage Pants himself? We're not worthy. ^_^
And my first addon was... wait for it... Coords. No, seriously. So many posts on Wowhead and Thottbot gave the coordinates for things, I had to get something that would tell me where I was. This was back in the days before the built-in quest helper stuff. Suddenly, finding random stuff became so much easier.
Also, since Mr. Belt wrote this topic, I feel compelled to mention that my first class-specific addon was, of course, Combustion Helper. For my fire mage. (Duh.)
Sleutel Aug 20th 2011 9:57AM
I think that was the first one I downloaded myself! I started playing on the account of my boyfriend at the time during a few months of unemployment, so I had some addons from the get-go. MapCoords was the first one I downloaded myself (and I still use it, four years later).

Who doesn't love http://www.wowhead.com/item=24682 ?
As for my first addon, I think it was either Koordinator (awesome addon if you only need coords and nothing else :p) or AtlasLoot, Koordinator was out of necessity, AtlasLoot I don't remember but all I do know is that when I got it I was so amazed that I sat there browsing all the weapons in gear in the whole game (specifically TBC dungeons, I had yet to go to outland :D). I don't think my friends appreciated it as much though, that I was link spamming all the cool items I found haha!
Karuna Aug 20th 2011 12:13PM
im not pro enough to say cosmos, it was a map coordinate mod for me too.
Eros Aug 20th 2011 8:12AM
Quest helper! Trying to find correct furbolgs that droped the logging nearly made me quit the game.
