Totally agree on your assessment of so-called 'silly items'! If Blizzard didn't want people using fun gear and weapons, then they shouldn't have added them in the first place! Or do they INTENTIONALLY want them to be useless? If that's the case, then why have them to begin with?
Let the community decide what's cool and what's not. If someone looks completely ridiculous, then let players handle how they deal with those people.

Based on blue posts it just feels bit like that they are "very careful" about this("At the start its very conservative" direct quote) and all of sudden we find out that they control every single item and want to control everything, wanting to take more than they can handle, so in the end it might be just "yeah just old tier items "for now""..
