The Queue: Attunement was awesome

On today's podcast, you can hear about the attunement required in the old The Burning Crusade expansion. Some people hate it with a passion, but you know what? I loved it. It was hard, it was an accomplishment, and you were set apart when you could just enter the raids.
Alas, those days are over.
For a reference, look at the attunement chart over on Wowpedia.
Krazy asked:
Did Blizzard ever release a design philosophy change as to why mobs no longer drop the highest level healing and mana potions?
You know, I've never thought of this before, but I've never seen one ...
Blizzard hasn't said anything on the subject, and this would be a great question to ask the devs at BlizzCon. It'd lead to a deeper understanding of itemization and buffs theory with Blizzard.
My guess is that Blizzard wanted to build up the alchemy profession more than anything, but I don't have any source for that (other than their wanting to give professions more love in general).
Tommb asked:
Will my death knight be able to wear the paladin judgement Set vis transmogrification?
No, you must be able to wear the gear before you can transmogrify gear to look like it. Since the judgment set has a paladin class restriction, and your death knight can't equip paladin class-restricted gear, he can't use it via transmogrification.
Fallemwarrior asked:
Any word if mainhand items will Xmorg with one hand items?
We've been told there'll be restrictions that only allow main-hand items to be transmogrified to main-hand items, and one-hand items to other one-hand items.
But all that can change. The best thing to do is to just wait for the PTR, pay attention to what you're seeing on sites like WoW Insider, and then see where things fall.
Mcdreamy asked:
Is anyone else having trouble with an unresponsive script on the WoW Insider pages causing the page to load eternally? The article, comments, and sidebars load, but Firefox never actually finishes the loading.
I've looked into this and I'm not seeing anything, so it might be something on your system or network that's causing the problem. If you're at an office, chances are there's thing blocking part of the internet, and that could be an issue here. If someone has more information, I'll happily forward it along and get it fixed.
That being said ... we're due for a redesign soon, so any issues people are having should be going away. And that's soon as in soon™.

Has anyone else's Kindle subscription of Wow Insider stopped working? Mine hasn't update since Aug. 9th.
Adam Holisky Aug 23rd 2011 11:05AM
This is on my list to look into, but the folks I need to talk with are not available right now. We've heard you guys loud and clear -- and I want to get it fixed just as much as you all. =)

Thanks for the quick response Adam!

Oh man, I was so excited to get a Kindle subscription to Wowinsider when I read this. Then I discovered it's not available to people in my geographical region. I can still get it on my Kindle via other means if I wanted (e.g. Readability), so not complaining (...that much). =)

How do you pronounce the community reps' names?
For example is Zarhym pronounced ZAR-am, ZAR-ham, or ZAR-him?
An answer would make reading blue posts a lot easier.....
fallemwarrior Aug 23rd 2011 11:14AM
Hmmmmm that's my warlocks imp's name :O!
Now i know what he does when im not soul shattering leaving him to take aggro from something i cant kill while i run away
Kunikenwad! Aug 23rd 2011 11:31AM
I believe Zarhym is pronounced as ZAR-em.
And Nethaera is pronounced as Steve.
eel5pe Aug 23rd 2011 11:33AM
There was a thread a while back where a lot of CMs chimed in about how to pronounce their names. If you know a blue tracker with a good search feature, you might find it.
I remember that it's "Zar-heem" and "Neth-uh-ray-uh", but others I've straight up forgotten.

reading this question and the different possible pronunciations has lodged a moment from a jeff dunham skit with peanut... now i can't stop hearing "jeff-fa-fa. dun-HAM." over and over in my brain. thanks, professor ;)

Your DK can't wear Judgement, but he/she can wear the purple Judgement look-alike from BC level 70 normal/heroic 5 mans. And yes, I know WoWwiki is dead but they do not have this article: http://www.wowwiki.com/Purple_Judgement_armor
Cephas Aug 23rd 2011 11:12AM
Uh, what? Are you trying to say that Wowpedia doesn't have that article, because they totally do: http://www.wowpedia.org/Purple_Judgement_armor

Here is the Wowpedia link:

Sometimes I wish the Queue writers would utilize the responses to the questions a bit more, to give more thorough answers. The purple Judgment lookalike was pretty thoroughly covered yesterday.

Purple Judgement has nothing on the originals though.. just my 2 cents

I have mixed feelings about attunement. I liked it in vanilla, but it was a bit excessive in BC.
The Dewd Aug 23rd 2011 11:16AM
Attunement was certainly a mixed bag.
The Alliance Onyxia attunement was a huge, annoying, quest chain that involved a lot of what they've tried to get away from (going in and out of the same dungeon more than once) but, oh, the sense of accomplishment when you finally finished! A lot of the BC-type attunement (eg: Kara) was, again, almost its own reward - though the various technically issues folks in my guild had trying to get through Black Morass (computer crashes, disconnects, etc) were a whole other issue.
I kind of miss attunements - kind of like how I miss all my old keys and my keyring - but I think the current design philosophy doesn't allow for it. I could see, maybe, having a simple attunement quest but they'll probably never go back to the old style.

Honestly, I miss it. It was a way for people to demonstrate that they were serious about raiding. Someone who went through a billion steps in order to get access to a raid was probably also going to show up on time for pulls, bring their own consumables, ensure they were stocked with reagents, etc. There's no gateway anymore, which is nice because it's less hassle for every alt that hits max level, but it also means that any jerk can just try to waltz in, with no way to separate out the lazy people with no consideration for the other 9 or 24 people in their raid.

Well, look what happened with the Cataclysm implementation. They had a simple requirement that to queue for the dungeon you had to at least find its entrance... and apparently someone had a problem with that because they removed that feature. Which was a shame, because I deliberately never discovered Stonecore on my alt and now I would have to have that in rotation if I queued for non-troll heroics on her.
It was a nice little bit of customization that they abandoned, and I miss it.
Grak Aug 23rd 2011 11:33AM
@ Nina Katarina
Actually that is exactly why they removed the "discovering first" requirement from the Cata heroics. People were deliberately avoiding discovering the overly long dungeons, or those considered to be certain wipefests like Stonecore. They could then queue for randoms and just get Vortex Pinnacle and Old City repeatedly.
Attunements are one thing, but when a system allows players to make random dungeons not so random...
