World of Wardrobe: Gathering tier 1, page 2

Shazzrah doesn't do much in the way of damage. He'll make a big show out of making Arcane Explosions, but they do very little damage to a level 85. Make sure you've cleared the trash around him, and knock him over.
Tier drops
- Arcanist Gloves (mage)
- Cenarion Gloves (druid)
- Giantstalker's Gloves (hunter)
- Felheart Slippers (warlock)
- Boots of Prophecy (priest)
- Nightslayer Boots (rogue)
This guy is accompanied by four Flamewaker Priests, and they will heal Sulfuron if you let them. They can be interrupted, but dispose of them first, then kill Sulfuron -- he doesn't do a lot of damage, really. As always, make sure you clear trash packs to give yourself a little breathing room here.
Tier drops
- Nightslayer Shoulder Pads (rogue)
- Pauldrons of Might (warrior)
- Giantstalker's Epaulets (hunter)
- Mantle of Prophecy (priest)
Other items of interest Sulfuron also drops Shadowstrike, a pretty cool-looking polearm that transforms into Thunderstrike, an equally cool-looking polearm. If you want some sort of trident, these are two pretty good options.
Golemagg the Incinerator
Golemagg is easy, although he does have two Core Ragers protecting him. The Ragers won't die while Golemagg is alive, but they'll collapse once he's been defeated, so ignore the puppies, kill the giant, watch all three of them die, and then loot!
Tier drops Golemagg drops tier 1 chest pieces for all nine classes listed above.
Other items of interest Golemagg also drops the Azuresong Mageblade, a one-handed sword; the Staff of Dominance, a caster staff with a cool, crackling light effect; and the Blastershot Launcher, a cool and simple double-barrelled gun. In addition, Golemagg has a chance to drop a Sulfuron Ingot, one of the reagents needed to craft the Sulfuron Hammer.

So, what about those other bosses in Molten Core? Well, they aren't necessary for tier 1, but that doesn't mean that they don't have some pretty cool items of their own!
Majordomo Executus
This boss comes with eight adds. If you get teleported to the center of the room, run out of it quickly. Magic users may need to watch for the magic reflect shields that the adds will occasionally throw up. You don't even have to attack Executus; simply kill all eight adds and he'll throw his hands up in the air in defeat, run away, and leave a nice basket of goodies behind for you.
Items of interest Executus drops Finkle's Lava Dredger, a fairly bizarre-looking two-handed mace. In addition, there's a chance of obtaining a Core Hound Tooth, one of a few really iconic rogue daggers from the days of Molten Core. Once upon a time, Executus also dropped the Ancient Petrified Leaf and the Eye of Divinity. Both of these items began quests for hunters and for priests respectively, leading to Rhok'delar and Benediction. Neither of these items are available anymore; the quests have been removed. But if you happen to have Rhok'delar or Benediction in your bank, you can use those items for transmogrification, since they're epic quality, instead of legendary.
Ragnaros
Ragnaros is the big, bad guy of this dungeon. He has a few phases, but at level 85, you probably won't see them -- he's a pushover. He will occasionally launch you into the air, so make sure you've got your back to a wall to avoid getting dunked in lava. If you're worried about killing him solo, bring a friend or two to help you out.
Items of interest Ragnaros drops several items of interest including the Crown of Destruction, a fiery mail helm; Perdition's Blade, another iconic rogue dagger; Bonereaver's Edge, a two-handed sword; and Spinal Reaper, a two-handed axe with a skull motif. He also has a low chance of dropping the Eye of Sulfuras, used to create the legendary Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros.
Ragnaros doesn't drop tier 1 at all! He does, however, drop tier 2 legs for all nine classes listed above. Be sure to knock him over, grab your pants, and come back next week, when we'll look into where and how to get what has often been called the most iconic armor set in World of Warcraft for many classes -- tier 2.

It is hilarious how transmorgrification is making people play dress up with essentially dolls. Forget Barbie, WoW is where its at

A note on Shazz for casters: He can and will sometimes lock you out of a spell school for a time.

I'm able to walk by all the corehound packs on the way to Magmadar. (I will usually kill the first pack where Lucifron because that makes it easier to deal with him.)
As far as the various debuffs/curses/etc., I just ignore them at 85. I've been running it with three different toons (fury warrior, prot paladin, and a BM hunter) without problems.

I got four bindings in one week (I was farming MC on 5 of my 85s for blood of the mountain and ingots to create my hand of rag). I got both halves on my warrior AND the eye of sulfuras in one run, left binding on my druid and right binding on my deathknight. 5 years god damn late Blizzard! Where was this luck when I was running MC at level with 39 guildies!

With the core hound packs on the way to Magmadar - at 85, you can just waltz right past them without proximity aggro. And as long as you take Magmadar at the very back of the room, his fears are unlikely to send you all the way into one of the packs either.
In fact, the only trash you can't just walk past are the Core Hound patrols - they've got a really large aggro radius for some reason. Not that killing them is hard, but it's handy to know ahead of time what trash you'll be forced to fight.
Assuming you don't aggro the core hounds in front of Garr, you can fight him at the back of his alcove without having to clear out nearby mobs either. Just make sure your back is to the wall to avoid his minion's knockback when he dies!
Geddon is annoying with multiple living bombs - it's not the explosion that gets you, but the repeated fall damage. Parachute cloaks, rocket boots, disengage etc all help avoid the impact damage.
Shazzrah - again, another boss you can ignore nearby mobs and just kill him where he stands.
Sulfuron is the only boss you want to bother clearing out the rock elemental and corehound patrols before fighting, as it's the one fight you're guaranteed to get adds in otherwise.
All in all, a full clear of all the bosses on my hunter only takes about half an hour to complete - the place is a cakewalk, really.

There is nothing sexier than the Might set for a warrior.
I'm not cover with more skulls than a heavy metal album cover or have silly mage glowy effects on me. Just steel and spikes. So many spikes...
Fletcher Aug 26th 2011 1:05AM
Onslaught has more spikes than Might. And the Wrathful Gladiator's set has more spikes than either of them.
veil Aug 26th 2011 11:24AM
more spikes, yes. but horde will tell you saurfangs first set was might. by sheer association alone, might is superior.

The Corehound Pack will keep regenerating unless you kill the whole pack within 10 sec of the first death. This might be somewhat tough for prot/tank specs to do solo; having even one DPSer (or a holy priest with Mind Sear) & keeping it to one pack at a time will save you loads of frustration. Also, even if you have more than one person with you, do NOT pull the whole room of Corehound Packs. Really. Seriously. You can't get them all down that fast (well, maybe if you have the full 25-40 man group, but otherwise...). Our 10-man group of trigger-happy "it's just level 60, let's run wild!!!" guildies kinda found that out, to my pain & tank-plate repair bill.

I personally went through wowhead and built my Paladin the perfect setup for T6 gear. The best (in my opinion) Paladin set ever. I'm going to get a Bulwark of Azzinoth and everything. The weapon is the only thing that I'm having a hard time with. There aren't too many good gold/silver/purple weapons in the game that don't look horrible. I'd really like a mace and so far the Rod of the Sun King from KT is going to be the best fit. I've got a bit of farming to do in BT and BfMH but it should be a fun experience. I've wanted a Bulwark of Azzinoth for ages ever since BT was released back in the day. The first Illidan kill I was in on at the tail end of TBC one dropped and it went to the warrior that had been tanking and he stopped playing shortly after...
The difficult things to get are going to be in old content but content that isn't soloable. Vanilla raids are easy enough to solo (though some mechanics do make this impossible in some cases" but going through Wrath and even TBC content it you will have to find people that are doing the same thing on your server. It might be interesting to start threads on each realms forums to find groups to farm content and get the pieces you want quicker. Might be something to pull the community together?

If you're after a weapon to go with Lightbringer, I might suggest the Hammer of the Astral Plane, Lucky Old Sun, or The Grinder - for Alliance, it not being available for Horde.
As for shields, I'm not sure that the Bulwark of Azzinoth, mighty though it may be, matches Lightbringer well. The Aegis of Damnation/Shield of Condemnation/Don Gonzales' Shiny Shield are nicely blue and gold, and match the Hammer of the Astral plane in particular.
If you're Alliance, you could also try the Bastion of Purity or Bulwark of the Royal Guard (good for dwarves!) from the ToC raid, and of course the Royal Crest of Lordaeron from H CoS is a great pally shield (it's also technically available to Horde, but in my opinion as a medical professional* equipping this while Horde will cause your genitalia to develop suppurating boils and rot).
*I am a certified Alliance Trauma Surgeon. Trust me.

Isn't it funny how that sort of thing always happens? Someone gets some great gear and winds up quitting (for whatever reason)? I think the first (or second) Battered Hilt in my guild back after 3.3 was won by a druid tank who made the mace and had to quit not long after.
Baek Aug 26th 2011 2:26PM
I know there may be shields that match it a little bit better but there are a number of reasons why I want the Bulwark of Azzinoth. Besides it being completely awesome, I've always looked up tank information at maintankadin.com and their logo (other than the tank with wings) on one of their shirts is a paladin in T6 with a bulwark and it looks awesome. Also, the Bulwark of Azzinoth isn't a dark black shield or even a dark grey. It actually has a little bit of a purple tint to it so it does match the T6 quite well even though it doesn't have any gold in it.
As for weapons, I think I might have to go with a burnished Quel'Serrar though I would prefer a mace. The maces you listed are nice looking but I think it should be more purple than blue since the T6 set has gold/silver/purple to it. I did use the Hammer of the Astral planes when I had my full T7.5 set though and that looked good. I may try to find my Merciless Gladiator's Gavel though cause that looks pretty freakin awesome too. I just may have gotten rid of it a long time ago....
