Since we last covered 9 Crimes a mere 5 months ago, it might seem a little early for another feature of this haunting, beautiful machinima. In my defense, 9 Crimes came up a few times on the official forums this week, as well as Twitter and Reddit -- and therefore, inevitably, my inbox.
The plot of the video is fairly simple. Many of the best stories in literature are simple concepts; instead of a convoluted plot, the narration is executed brilliantly. Using the song of the same name by Damien Rice, 9 Crimes uses brilliant animation, brooding, thoughtful framing, and careful timing to share the story and heartbreak with the audience.
9 Crimes will probably stay a favorite machinima until the death of WoW itself. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.
Ok, so I've looked at three articles about this machinima, and not one of them actually mentioned who made it, nor the comment sections in said articles.
Am I missing something obvious, or does no one know who made this? Or is it made anonymously?
What are you people complaining about? Who cares if priests can't use thunderfury (let alone 2) or warlocks can't use 2H maces. That's not what this is about. This is clearly not a wow machinema, it's a story that simply uses wow models as a medium, and cherry picks gear that looks the way the creator wanted to make the characters powerful and iconic looking. Gives them an almost anime or comic book hero vs villain quality. It's a beautiful machinema and an emotionally powerful one, and it's been one of my absolute favorites for a long while now.
It does an amazing job of showing without telling you the story and the song provides an amazing melancholy tone to it all. Fantastic piece.
Always loved this song as I do pretty much everything Damien Rice does. I like the video, but I don't think it's great. It almost makes it seem like the person making the video doesn't actually know what the song is about. They could have done a better video in that regard. Though considering how bad the official video to the song is, this is still an upgrade.

tired of seeing people in machinima use legendaries all the stinking time, much less dual wield them.

I first heard this song during the credits of a True Blood episode a few seasons ago. Though it was a very different version. Great song.

This was the first machinima i ever saw, closely followed by the Ballad of the Noob - then I discovered the ROFLMAO song. All great classics.

I appreciate the effort the creator put into it, but really not a fan of the song at all and the machinima itself didn't do anything for me.

Yep - overused themes of mystery bad guy turns out to be someone you used to love.
I almost expected the guy to say "As you wish" after she knocked him down.

'Written Directed and Edited by Sangkaratul'

Beautiful video all around, but all I could think of while watching was...
"Why-oh-why does that 'Bleeding Cowboys' font have to be used so bloody much!?"
...
"AAHAHAHAHHAHAHHHHHHHH!"

There, there it could have been papyrus.
cmichaelcooper Aug 25th 2011 8:44PM
Or comic sans.
...
"AAAAAAHAHHAAAHAHAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Typography is a dying art.

Sorry this is not "haunting, beautiful machinima" by any stretch. I've seen many, many more with a similar theme done FAR better.
Plus, my Sin'dorei gags a little every time her race gets portrayed this way...
seriously, just stop with the emo.
