Breakfast Topic: The new Darkmoon Faire
In case you missed it, Blizzard has unveiled the new and improved Darkmoon Faire that will be coming to Azeroth in patch 4.3. The Darkmoon Faire will occupy an entire island and be filled to the brim with new quests, rewards, fun novelty items, and even a brand new, free-for-all PVP arena in the same vein as the Gurubashi Arena. The changes are massive, turning the Darkmoon Faire into a whole new experience for players.
There are so many features coming with the new Faire that it's hard to choose the coolest one. So that's what we should talk about this morning. What is your favorite feature coming with the new Darkmoon Faire? Is it the ability to purchase old vanity armor sets that are difficult to obtain or just don't exist anymore? What about the ability to gain five skill points in all of your professions per week while the Faire is in town? Are you a questaholic, excited to complete all of the new quests and storylines that the Faire will provide? How about collecting Darkmoon Artifacts, found all over the world, in order to earn prizes, rewards, and more?

I read that as "withholding my excrement."
'Cause, you know... monkeys.
MattKrotzer Aug 26th 2011 12:05PM
Monkeys don't withhold their excrement.

Oooh, open arena. Gurubashi is fun stuff watching all the trash talk and millions of dead bodies lyin around. I think it will be more civil since its a sanctuary and people can safely watch the bloodshed on the stands. Ok, maybe a tiny bit more civil. Lets get it on!

Everything I've read about the new Faire sounds awesome. ^_^ What really has me intrigued, though, is the Darkmoon Field Guide. It sounds like it'll be used to give people a reason to go out and see more of the world, whether it's running old dungeons or just going to areas they long-ago outleveled. Anything that gets people to do something other than just sit around in a capital city is a good thing, and if it leads to people seeing more of the game, even better.
The chance for skill-ups is also excellent, and I'm looking forward to seeing just what lurks in those woods that people go into and never come out. Bwa ha ha!

There is a LOT of potential for this.
"68 Scarlet Crusade Tabards - Any Condition" == Farm the Scarlet Monastery's trash mobs for a new white drop. If they increase the droprate of the actual green-quality Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade, that would be a terrific win.
"74 Giant Snake Teeth" == Farm them up from any zone or instance that has giant snakes or wind serpents in them; Zul'Gurub, Feralas, Wailing Caverns...
"15 Bottles of Vrykul Woad" == Farm them up from Utgarde Keep/Pinnacle or from any living Vrykul mobs (so, Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Ymirheim...)
It really depends. If the Field Guide gives a big kit of quests that can only be turned in at the DMF when it's going on, it equates to monthly quests, which is kinda cool until you figure out how many quests there are, and how much bag space the quest items will eat up... but wait, our bags are getting emptied out because of Void Storage.
So yeah, maybe this is going to be mega-awesome. ^_^

I don't think I saw it mentioned anywhere yesterday but they mention relics so I am wondering if it will have any archaeology ties to it?

"free-for-all PVP arena in the same vein as the Gurubashi Arena"
Oh this is going to be fun, i'm going to get a nice 25 man group together :)

Did I read right that there will be new profession recipes?
I'm hoping that you don't have to grind too many Darkmoon decks for those recipes. If not, the prices on cards, decks, and herbs are going to go through the roof.
Shinae Aug 26th 2011 10:11AM
Yes, there was a mention of new recipes.
However, I would not bank on the DMF decks being of use for anything but rep. It was said that they'll have a new ticket system, so it might require as much work to get those new receipes with exalted rep as with friendly rep.
Feel free to stock up, though. :)

My favorite new feature, hopefully getting insane in the membrane will be a little easier.
Blayze Aug 26th 2011 8:36AM
Hopefully this means there'll be some Ravenholdt improvements in the future, as well as ones to the other old factions I still don't have.
zubbiefish Aug 26th 2011 8:51AM
Not to pee in your Cheerios, but why should Insane be easier? It's intended to be a soul crushing grind. So long as it's not impossible, I see no reason to change it.
Caz Aug 26th 2011 10:49AM
Zubbie is right - it's called The Insane for a reason. You have to be lifeless and crazy to attempt it.
StClair Aug 26th 2011 12:05PM
And this is the sort of behavior that Blizzard wants to be encouraging?
*looks at progression raiding again*
Oh wait, silly me. Carry on.
Bobby Earl Aug 29th 2011 7:52AM
Now that Shendralar is gone and DMF rep will be easy to get, they should change the title to "the Sorta Insane" or "the Wacky". Either that or change my Insane title to "Captain Insane-O", I could live with that.

I really like the new changes. The Faire needed a little TLC with all the other stuff that has been done to the game since Cataclysm.
puffcake Aug 26th 2011 8:31AM
If there are pets and mounts, I'm a happy man. Plus? Being able to practically gain rep with the Faire is gonna be helpful for United Nations...so that's great too.
