Breakfast Topic: The new Darkmoon Faire
In case you missed it, Blizzard has unveiled the new and improved Darkmoon Faire that will be coming to Azeroth in patch 4.3. The Darkmoon Faire will occupy an entire island and be filled to the brim with new quests, rewards, fun novelty items, and even a brand new, free-for-all PVP arena in the same vein as the Gurubashi Arena. The changes are massive, turning the Darkmoon Faire into a whole new experience for players.
There are so many features coming with the new Faire that it's hard to choose the coolest one. So that's what we should talk about this morning. What is your favorite feature coming with the new Darkmoon Faire? Is it the ability to purchase old vanity armor sets that are difficult to obtain or just don't exist anymore? What about the ability to gain five skill points in all of your professions per week while the Faire is in town? Are you a questaholic, excited to complete all of the new quests and storylines that the Faire will provide? How about collecting Darkmoon Artifacts, found all over the world, in order to earn prizes, rewards, and more?

The DMF Artifacts sound like archaeology, but I think it will be separate; as in, people without archaeology will be able to use that feature.
My guess is that it will work like that item you had to have in your bags during "Love is in the Air" in order to loot Lovely Charms from mobs you've killed.
Not to say that I don't want new stuff for archaeology because as someone with 2 maxed-out diggers, I do.

Reading the preview, it sounds like the DMF artifacts won't require any digging. You just go to whatever location is listed in the book they give you, and then find the artifact, kind of like a scavenger hunt. I believe it mentioned entering dungeons, even.

or the old Argent Commissions that (when equipped) caused Scourge in the Plaguelands to drop tokens when killed.
On that note, I hope that having the Guide in your bag will be sufficient; I'd rather not give up a trinket slot.

I didn't hear about it till just now with this post and it sounds pretty damn cool. Looking forward to it.

Am I the only one who is now thinking that "Mists of Pandaria" is the name of patch 4.3, and not the next expansion?
loop_not_defined Aug 26th 2011 10:19AM
Considering we're killing/defeating Deathwing in 4.3, I'm very much doubting it'll be named after the Pandaren.
Shinae Aug 26th 2011 10:19AM
No. Apparently you didn't read the comments to articles about that when the news first broke.
Many people were guessing that "Mists of Pandaria" would be a patch, not an expansion. But the thing is, Blizzard has NEVER trademarked patch names. Also, the timing of this falls in line with when the previous expansion names were trademarked.
Sorry to burst your bubble.

Sorry to burst yours that I was that emotionally invested in a mere musing. Lighten up, Francis.

Along with what everyone else has already said, I'm most interested to see whether there is any new lore to the Faire. I like that they went with the eerie Gilnean terrain for Darkmoon Isle. With the uber-dangerous forest and the dark(ish) vibe the event has always had, there are some neat story opportunities here. Nothing huge, necessarily, but I'd like to see more of a glimpse into what is assuredly a most seedy underbelly of the carnival.

I'm excited. I'm going to miss the cannon in Shatt, though. We occasionally have an all-levels guild event where everyone gets a shot at hitting the lake. It's funny to see a level 12 hit the lake and aggro every basilisk in Terrokar.
I've already informed the guild we are going the first day it's open AND, we're going into the woods.

Anyone reading between the lines and seeing what I'm seeing?
"Mist-shrouded Darkmoon Island is a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. It's a place of mystery and wonder, and you wouldn't believe the deals we made to get it... or who we made 'em with. But never mind that, just follow me right through here and I'll show you what the Darkmoon Faire is all about."
MISTS OF PANDARIA. Darkmoon Island - some island at an undisclosed location?
Mystery, wonder - and YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHO THEY DEALT WITH!
"The shadowy woods surroundin' the fair are another thing entirely, though. I wouldn't say that people have disappeared into those woods never to return, but, well... people disappear into those woods never to return. So watch your step , and your back, when you leave the Faire. Don't say I didn't warn ya!"
What the hell's going on in Panda Land?
Noyou Aug 26th 2011 1:21PM
Yeah. About a dozen or so people did yesterday when this news broke and McCurley reported on it ;)

Darkmoon Artifacts will be good. I hope they are purposely placed in a lot of the less populated areas - to remind people of how good they were and how good they still can be.
(I'm amazed at how few people have realised that Dalaran is a great place to hearth to (a lot less busy than the capitals and, with portals to them, just as good.).

What the hell??? I googled dancing bears, expecting to find some site that shows the grim reality of a dancing bears life. Instead I got some sight.... well lets just leave it at its not suitable for those below 18 years. :S
Oh internet you never fail to surpris/confuse/amaze me.

I'm not too excited. If it's anything like the Molten Front then it's just going to be a huge grind that I'm going to feel obligated to do. On the other hand if they keep the rewards to just vanity items maybe not.
I am, however, excited by the prospect that perhaps we'll be able to turn in decks at any time.
Drahken Aug 26th 2011 7:19PM
Yeah, I know. It's just that they're taking a very hard rep to grind and making it easier. Those of us who did it the hard way are SoL.
Shiro_Shishi Aug 27th 2011 1:41AM
Did...did they hear and listen to wowcrendor?
spooky.
