We went though this recently and as a raid leader, it was making me sick to argue with players who assumed their enrollment in the guild guaranteed them a raid spot. I eventually emailed my slackers a list of resources and assigned them small goals to be met within one week. I said I would help them parse the data if they wanted during off nights and not a single person messaged me for assistance. Those that showed on raid night without gems, enchants or improvements were removed and replaced with pick-ups before the trash was finished.
I caught some flak for it, mostly from the offenders, who accused me of making the game "unfun" for them, but really? How can wiping on bosses and holding back the members that pull their weight be fun? I'll never understand the mindset of some players.
