i can't stand boomkin form either, which is the main reason my druid stays kitteh, but I wouldn't straight remove it either since it does have a place in lore (go quest in winterspring). I would change the talent so it gives the buff regardless, and then make boom form into a cd like tree or metomorphasis. Two cd forms for one class may sound like too much, but every spec pretty much has cd's, i think letting one more being extra visual is okay

we could move it to being just something druids can click if they want to be in form or not, make it purely cosmetic

GET AWAY FROM MY MOONKIN FORM>
If you dont like it, re-roll. Go on, the druid community is better off without you. Go play an emo-lock or something.
Stop trying to ruin my fun by saying moonkin form should go, its bad enough tree form is no longer permenant, and that its fugly-disco tree form now not cute treant form.
just stop it, please.

When Blizz took away my druid's permanent tree form, they took away my favourite aspect of druiding, the permanent tree shape. They took away all my tree puns, my tree emotes, my happy tree dance, my very identity as a druid healer. They also took away my ability to spot my toon easily in the chaotic mess that raids can become. My compensation for this was seeing armor that I could only truly admire when battle was over (really, folks, I'm too busy healing to care about my armor in battle!). Sometimes I liked that armor, often I did not. Armor visuals are a poor recompense for all the fun I lost with permanent tree form. I have no appreciation of my new tree form. Thirty seconds of giant broccoli is insufficient to grow attached to its quirks and personality.
I was consoled by moonkin form. At least while DPSing I could once again regain some of my joy in my Druid. Bird puns are not a true substitute for tree puns, but boomy happy dance is as amusing and cheering as tree dance. Now you would have Blizzard remove the Moonkin form. Druid spellcasters will become as boring as other spellcasting classes. Much of the magic of druidhood will be removed.
Both tree form and moonkin form were integral to druids when I started playing 6 years ago. I chose a druid as my first toon for its ability to change shape and have remained in love with them since. I do not understand why I must lose my favourite aspect of my toon so you may see some armor. If you loved armor so much and liked forms so little, why did you roll druid?

I like the boomkin form only for it's Lore/RP purposes. I wouldn't mind seeing it be an optional but permanent form. I don't play a Druid to show off my hot looks. Give Tree back too!!

That moonkin quest in winterspring was tagged in to try and justify moonkin form. I really look at it as a retcon. Balance druids, are druids that focused more on casting spells, and invoking nature to take care of foes, which we already had in lore as Druids of the Talon. Druids of the Talon could cast in stormcrow form, but on the ground, where they were the most useful, they were just in a simple caster form.
I fully realize that druids in WoW are Druids of the Wild, a new breed that were built just for WoW, but many of the concepts for the Feral and Resto tree stemmed from the general gameplay of the Druid of the Claw unit. Balance was the carry through of the Druid of the Talon unit, all compressed into one tree.
Everywhere in lore, and even cannon stories, druids will shape shift into cats, bears, but not moonkin, when they need to suddenly cast a stronger spell they don't go, "oh I need to become a moonkin now".
Moonkin IS a outdated, broken mechanic that was supposed to make the balance tree similar to the shadow tree, only it failed horribly in making a parallelism between shadow form and moonkin form.

Pretty much what fallemwarrior said, why can't they just allow Moonkin form (and Tree of Life) to be a cosmetic thing?
I know if I were on the WoW forums I'd be getting the "beating a dead horse with a stick" thing but it just doesn't make any sense. Some of us actually enjoy being in our forms all of the time, if they made it purely cosmetic I don't see who could be upset.
My main is a Feral Druid because I love being in Cat form, I love looking at my gear too but that's what I do in cities, when I'm raiding I love seeing my kitty. When I'm tanking I love the feeling of being a badass bear. Back in Wrath the best thing about healing was Tree form, I loved all the animations and just being unique.
It's a load of crap when you say that you want to smash your head against a desk when you hear druids complain about being shapeshifters. Allow Resto and Balance the use of their forms, give them no buffs so they aren't required to look at their forms if they'd rather see their gear when what they're really doing is staring at their dps meters or healing frames anyway.
Keep the new form for Tree of Life as the CD, this way everyone wins. Also, update the Moonkin and Tree of Life models while you're at it. I know I for one would be happy if they did this.
