Breakfast Topic: Is transmogrification bringing you back?

Some people that I've spoken with have said it is. They love the old raids and pine for the days of yesteryear. With transmogrification, they hope to find groups of like-minded players to run the old content, expand their raiding beyond just the cutting-edge tier. They want to experience the game for what it is in its entirety and not focus on a single microcosm of content.
To them, transmogrification is (hopefully) the vehicle in which they'll ride to the good ol' days again.
I suspect, although don't know for certain, that transmogrification will contribute to a positive bump (or a slowing of the decline) in subscriber numbers. A commenter in The Queue asked the other day if the upcoming Raid Finder will allow for players to find groups for older raids. While it might be unlikely, given how the current Dungeon Finder behaves, a combination of that ability in the Raid Finder and transmogrification might be enough to draw back the old-schoolers in droves.
So let's hear it: Is transmogrification going to bring you back, or at least keep you around longer?

Wil transmog keep me around, no.
Will it make the game slightly more interesting whilst I remain, yes.
But as soon as GW2 is released, I'm out of here. No amount of new features will keep me in wow past that date.

It wouldn't bring me back. What would bring me back is If I could get a full set of Tier epics through heroics, such that I could hop into PUG raids on the weekends and not be ridiculed for wearing crap, I'd reconsider.
I was a hardcore raider for 2.5 years. No matter how Blizzard tweaks the game, you need to address the issues of players who enjoy the game, are very good at the game, but can't spare the time to grind it out. Life changes, you're not in university forever, and you're not at the same job forever.

1. I'll login and resub
2. I'll change my armor to look the way I want. I'll go to this Darkmoon Faire and exhaust the fun from it quickly.
3. I'll lose interest quickly because of the players and the point grinds/dailies.
4. Unsub
Wait... that doesn't seem like a very good reason to resub, does it? Play dress-up? Play a couple of new dailies and mini-games until I've seen every one...in a week?
I am happy that trial accounts are now unlimited. I can enter a capitol and observe chat channels and other things to meter player sentiment, which is especially vital in deciding when $14.99 to Blizzard is a good deal.

If they made every set available to wear to everyone who was at least high enough level to wear the set, I might come back to the game. As it stands, Transmogrifying is just another grind-fest.
No thanks.
I have absolutely zero interest in running old content and dungeons I've already seen countless times just to pick something up I sold to a vendor 3 years ago.
Unless WoW has a major paradigm shift from endless grinds, I don't see myself returning to the game.

I agree with Darkseid. Hate to be a naysayer about a game I *love*, but the excitement over this new feature will last about a week, maybe two.

Personally for me WOW is getting boring. It is a great game, I have been playing it for more than 2 years now. In fact this is my first MMO experience, but apart for the current raid content there is nothing new that is happening in wow. Transmorg is not smthing that is totally exciting for me. In my opinion, there is no point in doing old content at lvl 85. It's not even a challenge. So doing old content just so that I can transmorg my present gear to look like old stuff, sry but not very impressive.

^ This is 90% of what I was going to say.
I'll just add that even if I was still enjoying my time in WoW, Transmog isn't my cup of tea. I really don't care what armor sets look like. As a melee, I usually hump the boss' leg anyway and can't see much of anything else through all the spell effects, fire, auras, etc. I really don't care if that caster over there has shiny shoulders or if the tank has a skull-shaped shield. And in PVP, if it's red, it's dead; I couldn't care less what you look like as I bleed you out. My subscription expires in about 2 months so unless blizzard lags I should have a chance to see 4.3, but I'm really not expecting it to amaze me enough to re-up my sub. To each his own, of course!

In answer to the question it depends when the patch is released. my sub is ending early October. If its out by then and I like Transmog then I might stay a while longer but there are less reasons to stay in WoW these days rather than more. We'll see how the Darkmoon isle and transmog wotk out first, if launched soon.

Sadly, Transmorg is more "too little, too late" for Wow. They should have implemented a full-on Wardrobe feature a long time ago. And now, when the folks that will enjoy this the most have sharded or sold their legacy gear to make room in our sadly limited banks, we finally get a quasi-wardrobe (you still have to pay again each time you want your new gear to look like an old piece) and we have to go re-grind it AGAIN?
No thanks. Not worth coming back.

I recently froze my account to move closer to my partner, who lived 3 states away. Anyone who's done long distance knows how awful that kind of thing is in the long term. I've been slowly re-establishing myself, new job, new city, etc. I was previously self employed(read: largely unemployed, at least in this economy, lol) in graphic design, and had alot of home-time on my hands, and thus, alot more WoW time.
I do miss the game, and the community(mostly the community), largely in times of innactivity, although those are few and far between right now.
Transmog does get me a little excited about coming back, just because I'm an aesthetics whore, but I don't think it's enough in the long run to suck me back in, at least back up to full-time raiding status. if it was Housing + transmog, then maaaaaaaaybe. We'll see. Maybe if I can bring my partner with me haha, but I doubt it!

I'll just find some random level 20 green item gear and transmogrify it so that I can dress down. It should be fun watching some under geared player from the opposing faction try to sneak up on me. "Whoops, I thought he was a level 20 player."
TonyKP Aug 29th 2011 8:58AM
It won't bring me back, but I think it's a tacit admission that Cataclysm was geared so much towards being challenging that for a lot of people (i.e. me) it just wasn't very fun. Too little too late for Cataclysm itself but it bodes well for the next expansion.
