Breakfast Topic: Listening to music while playing WoW
Here are four ways that I incorporate music to my play:
Leveling Undead I found that listening to The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack was a hilarious addition to leveling an Undead character. The lyrics, "This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween!" added magic to spotting skeletal fish in a lake.
Leveling Draenei/Night Elf The Lord of the Rings soundtrack or Pirates of the Caribbean or Beats Antique are epic songs for these races, no matter where you are in Azeroth. Epic!
Dungeon DPS/warrior Black Sabbath or any heavy metal! Keeps me awake between pulls. Also, techno music works.
Dungeon healing Pink Floyd keeps me calm, cool, and relaxed. Plus, I don't feel the irresistible urge to jump around as I do when listening to heavy metal.
There you have it! What I like to listen to when I play. What do you like to listen to?

If you haven't discovered spotify.com do it.
I either listen to NPR news casts or piano music when im questing. Sometimes I throw out a little electronica or dubstep when I really just want to rageface smash things.
Just realized how Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde that sounds.

Indeed! I love it so much that I went for the Unlimited plan.

HA! You reminded me of my all time creepiest WoW moment. I listen to a lot of classical piano when I level, and I had JUST gotten my mage out to Hellfire Peninsula. And then about 5 minutes in this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5bGOnx-YCs ) starts playing...
I was a bit weirded out for a moment but then looked up that that the actually music was based on Chopin Nocturne Op.27 No.1. Anyways good memories!

I do like the game music, and addons like Epic Music Player allow me to listen to any track whenever I want to in game. For example, if I am in a zone that has music that does not fit my mood, I click on EMP and just go to the ICC-music, AQ, whatever. There also are playlists like "Best Of WoW"... nuking a boss while hearing that awesome anthem from the Gnomeregan-pre-Cata-event rocks =)
However, I also find myself listening to audio books a lot when questing or farming... it would be too distracting if I was in an instance, but farming mats or going for Loremaster while listening to Lovecraft-audio books (which I have read a gazillion times, but I still love to listen to, say, "Mountains Of Madness" or "Shadow Out Of Time") and other stuff. I know, not exactly music, but it's what I listen to a lot

Back in 2007-2009, I had twinks, when it meant somethin to twink: No corners to cut, u leveld the
ole fashioned way no tabards, and additional accounts, gear had to be farmed by mains, or lucky
drops....thotbot searches, and etc.
Music was a needed to break the monotony
My rogue twink 39 bracket /pvp Id listen to Hiphop old school, "It Takes two, Humpty Dance, Black Coffee and Bustamove" amongst others
shamy twink 49 bracket/pvp was 80's metal: Racer X, King Diamond, Queensryche (only old stuff)
Main warrior: Leave's eyes, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Delain...... (currently what im working on)'
Music is a huge part of my life, and so is WOW, thanks for asking this question!

When I'm on my resto druid, I find that celtic music, particularly Dougie MacLean and Loreena McKennitt mades for a nice feel. When I'm on my paladin: I go with Christopher Lee's Charlemagne: By The Sword And The Cross (no really, a Christopher Lee metal album about Charlemagne). For my hunter: faster-paced Celtic. For my shadow priest: Black sabbath. My warrior gets Lordi, and my rogue gets Fleetwood Mac.
Don't look at me like that.

I'm like the OP - it's all about my task at hand.
Questing - Unless I'm running (erm, swimming) through Vashj'ir, it usually reflects my day-to-day preference: industrial rock and club styles, classic rock, post punk, and occasionally I'll fall back into a rut and want to listen to some screamo music.
PuG Healing - Darkcore and the likes. And if I hear a note of dubstep, the run has to stop so I can skip over it.
MDPS/Tanking - A variety of metal, extending from Black Sabbath to Behemoth.
Guild Raids - Nothing. People get pissy when you stop listening in vent.
Farming - Men Without Hats - "Safety Dance." Naturally.

If I'm just killing some time, then any music will do, but if I'm in a really strong playing mood, then anything other than game music kills the immersion.

Jpop and Kpop. But now that I discovered the wonder that is Spotify I listen to all kinds of music. Really, as long as it'll have a good beat to make those dailies (more?) fun then they have my ear's attention.

When I'm farming for any extended period of time I listen to Scooter's excellent "Jumping All Over the World" album.

Our Guild have taken to singing the DuckTales theme at each other.
styopa Aug 29th 2011 9:22AM
Pandora. Set it for whatever mood you want that moment. I've found different toons have 'themes' around different channels...my druid(s) Center of the Sun, while my hunter plays well to 80's pop tunes. LOL.
The only thing wrong with it is that it doesn't have Waterflame, which is about the most awesome background music ever (although, like WoW's music, it can ultimately get repetitive after hours).
sporteeee Aug 29th 2011 9:39AM
I hit shuffle on my music collection. Unless I'm in a particular mood. However, I have been known to open up Vent and let the music from my speakers wash over the raid channel during downtime......especially when listening to Mambo.
Molly Aug 29th 2011 9:52AM
When I'm healing, I'll sometimes throw on some Adele, Grace Potter, or some older stuff like CCR or Fleetwood Mac. It puts me in a good, relaxed healing mood.

Playing a trance version of the Doctor Who theme song during battlegrounds always seems to be correlated with our side severely trouncing the other.

Since Cataclysm, I've had the game music on to hear all the new stuff. But in the past, especially for leveling alts, I've broken up the monotony of the Vanilla music with a series of playlists that correspond to differently-themed areas of the world. Upon entering a "new" zone/continent, I'll flick to iTunes and change the music to something that fits. For example:
Dim, wooded areas like Tirisfal Glades/Silverpine/Duskwood: soundtracks from The Village and Lady in the Water.
The Barrens: soundtrack from Blood Diamond and tracks from Jurassic Park/The Lost World.
Usually I also have other select pieces thrown in from other soundtracks, like Pan's Labyrinth, Myst III: Exile, Lord of the Rings, Avatar, Dinosaur, even a few from Lost :P

Am I the only one that listens to dubstep when dps'ing, trance when healing and hardstyle when im tanking?..... crap i am arnt i.... :/
Prelious Aug 29th 2011 1:20PM
Nope...Pretty much Trance for everything. Specifically though Tiesto Flight 643 for that first raid pull.
Shinae Aug 29th 2011 10:09AM
I usually just listen to the game music, but if I'm going to be soloing for a while, I'll turn on Pandora.com. I love its randomness. I have so many favorites loaded into my channel that I never know what I'm going get, but it's usually something I like, and sometimes something I've never heard.
I also have a channel that's specifically for epic symphonic music, mainly ES Posthumus and Apocalyptica. Unfortunately, Pandora doesn't doesn't host any Two Steps from Hell. So awesome!
