Blizzard remains optimistic about WoW subscriber numbers

The company isn't worried that it's all downhill from here, however, according to The Market for Computer & Video Games interview with Blizzard Entertainment's VP and executive MD of internal operations Michael Ryder. Citing the game's impending launch in Brazil, growth in China, and the new free-to-play aspect of WoW (at least, free-to-play up to level 20), Ryder insists that the world's most successful MMORPG has room to become even more successful.
Spin? Perhaps. But still, even if subscriber numbers continue a slow decline, there's no question that WoW will be profitable -- and thus, still around -- for a long time to come.

I'm pretty sure WoW will always exist in one form or another, even in future VR formats. What I think everyone is really waiting for is what Blizzard plans to do next. If I had to guess, the guys at EVE should be looking over their shoulders if they are not already doing so. If Blizzard can make spreadsheets in space a playable genre, we will have the next big thing.

WoW gets one more expansion chance from me.
I've been playing since nearly the beginning, and this is the first truly disastrous expansion I've had to deal with. Fine. Ok. It sucks. Mistakes happen. Fix it next time and give us a great expansion to follow this one to show us that you understand you screwed up.
For all of us who don't like Cata but didn't cancel, there's a cost to us as players too. From the cost of buying the box, to every month that I pay for content I don't enjoy, to an enjoyment cost of not having the same level of play that I had before... there's a cost that adds up and everyone sees it different.
Keeping a subscription and paying through one disaster... can be done, twice... well I'm already pre-ordered on SWToR just in case Blizz doesn't take the loss of players seriously enough to give us a great followup expansion.

I thought BC was a horrible xpac. Cata raids don't really have my attention and I tired of the dungeons much sooner than I did of WOTLK dungeons, but I love doing the old world quests again.
I would like to see new territory in Azeroth. Travel to distant planets will continue to suck until Blizzard game developers discover the teleportation system.
